Well, a report--based on Weiner's claim--was filed with the FBI. Weiner knowingly made a false claim of a crime, an official report was filed with the FBI, so there may have been a crime committed. I'll admit it's a grey area, but hey...
This is shameful.
I feel bad for his family and the people in his district. He has really let them down. There's no excuse for this type of sexual acting out.
He wasn't sexually acting out, he was involving himself in total dumbassery.
Rep. Chris Lee, R-N.Y., abruptly resigned Wednesday after the gossip website Gawker disclosed that the married congressman had e-mailed a shirtless picture of himself to a woman he met through Craigslist.
"I regret the harm that my actions have caused my family, my staff and my constituents," the two-term congressman said in a statement posted on his site Wednesday evening. He said he made "profound mistakes."
"The challenges we face in Western New York and across the country are too serious for me to allow this distraction to continue, and so I am announcing that I have resigned my seat in Congress effective immediately."
On Thursday, House Speaker John Boehner said Lee "made the right decision for himself and for his family" by resigning. Boehner, however, refused to tell reporters whether he encouraged Lee to step aside.
"Congressman Lee made his own decision that he thought was in his own best interest and the interest of his family," said Boehner, an Ohio Republican.
Embattled Rep. Anthony Weiner admitted Monday he sent dirty pictures of himself to Internet strangers and lied about it but he denied cheating on his wife - and said he wasn't stepping down.
Rep. Anthony Weiner admits he sexted, tweeted crotch pic; says he will not step down amid scandal
If Weiner intended to send this to some woman he was having a fling with then the only thing that really bothers from a political standpoint is that he lied about it. However, if lying about briefly posting a picture of his Congressional aide is the worse thing he has done then I think people should forgive Weiner for tweeting his weiner. Of all the things I could be worrying about this is the least of my concerns.
In a bizarre spectacle, Andrew Breitbart temporarily took over the press conference in New York that was supposed to feature Rep. Anthony Weiner Monday, declaring that everything he’s posted on his conservative Web site BigGovernment.com has proven to be true.
Weiner was supposed to come to the microphones at 4 p.m. but Breitbart commandeered the podium instead, criticizing the media’s coverage of the Weiner scandal and saying he had been “vindicated” even before the congressman spoke.
He had heard about the press conference when his cell phone started buzzing, and strolled over from his hotel nearby. His phone rang, and he took the call. “Hey, I’m here right now, this is crazy,” he said to the caller.
Breitbart went unnoticed by the huge media throng until a POLITICO and New York Observer reporter approached him, and tweeted about it. Word spread that he was on the premises, and the cameramen quickly rushed over, surrounding him by a side door.
“Andrew, would you go to the podium?” WCBS reporter Marcia Kramer, who just days earlier was threatened with arrest when she staked out Weiner’s congressional office in Washington, asked.
After a few requests, he agreed. Breitbart questioned whether Weiner was paying to rent the ballroom, and said it was perhaps not wrong to take the podium in that case. But he went up anyway.
“I am completely here by happenstance,” Breitbart said, before turning quickly to the matter at hand.
Weiner faced several questions about whether he had any apologies to make to the blogger.
The congressman resisted the first few times.
“I’m right here,” Breitbart called out from the sidelines. Soon after, Weiner said “I apologize to Andrew Breitbart.”
House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Rep. Steve Israel, the chairman of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, have called for an investigation into Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-N.Y.) over the series of sexually explicit conversations and lewd photos he exchanged with a half-dozen women during the last several years.
“I am deeply disappointed and saddened about this situation; for Anthony’s wife, Huma, his family, his staff and his constituents,” Pelosi said in a statement released on Monday night. “I am calling for an Ethics Committee investigation to determine whether any official resources were used or any other violation of House rules occurred.”
Israel added: “Congressman Anthony Weiner engaged in a deep personal failure and inappropriate behavior that embarrassed himself, his family, and the House. Ultimately, Anthony and his constituents will make a judgment about his future.”
“To remove all remaining doubt about this situation, I agree with Leader Pelosi’s request that the House Ethics Committee use its authority to begin an investigation.”
The calls by Pelosi and Israel for an ethics investigation dramatically raise the political stakes for Weiner. While Weiner stated repeatedly during an emotional press conference on Monday that he had broken no laws nor violated House ethics rules during his interaction with the women, a probe by the House Ethics Committee could find differently. Under its rules, the Ethics Committee can initiate an investigation under its own authority, without a formal complaint being filed.
And it also could provide Pelosi and other Democratic leaders with enough political cover to call on Weiner to step down. So far, none of his Democratic colleagues have called on him to give up the seat that he first won in 1998.
oh i don't know bold face lying to the american public...you're right, that's acceptable. How dare we say he should resign for being a scumbag lying deceitful pervert?
They. All. Lie.
Only because we accept that as the norm. Had the voters kicked to the curb guys like the Weiner, there would be a whole lot less liars like Weiner and Obama
Weiner's big problem is that he likes Bush. :2razz:
George or hairy?
Both. One lies on it's back while the other lies through his teeth.
