Reading books

I cannot remember the ones I read when I was younger like Jane and Prudence. I like Some Tame Gazelle among the ones I have been reading now. Perhaps I should warn you that these are not a man's man books. They are for people who can tolerate reading about slow life in an English village and maintain an interest in the foibles of middle aged characters who never face any death-defying adventures. I have been sharing them with an old college friend who lives on the opposite coast from from me, but she is a vegan who bakes; plays classical piano and hapsichord. I don't want to lead you into something that will bore you silly. :)

Thanks. You are correct. There’s probably a reason why I am not familiar with Pym’s books. 😂

The Old Man and The Sea is the only one that didn't grab me. I think it was required reading in high school. I read all his other books in my 20's and loved them immediately and passionately. The Sun Also Rises being my favorite.
I suspect a lot of times appreciating a book is as much about timing as it is the quality of the writing. My friends in high school would rave about Catcher in the Rye, but for whatever reason I put off reading it until my twenties. By then the protagonist just sounded like a whiny brat to me and I didn't care for it.

I love to read, I have always hated being assigned books to read. I skated through school on Cliffs Notes and Classic Comics for report material.

Luckily some of us when to schools where we were encouraged to read whatever we wanted as long as we could justify the theme and write an essay explaining the importance of the books we were reading.
I loved it.
