If the people of Somalia want to live by Sharia Law. Then who is the West to say that they can't?
After all, it is an Islamic country and the people are Muslims.
Then you are NOT a Muslim.
So Sharia Law is unIslamic, and the Prophet, Quran, and the Sunnah are wrong!?!?
Get your head out of your bigoted biases and actually look at the accomplishments of the Church.
I'll condem it in a heartbeat but lets be a little bit frank here.
This is SOMALIA.
The country that is so ****ed up it can't control itself. [Ofc i could be a little bit biased]
Either way, they stoned some woman for adultery this week.
Can't say im entirely shocked that they would kill a raped 13 yr old.
Everybody on this planet except the muslim population has figured this out and moved passed it.
Why can Islam not evolve?
Sorry but you are simply wrong. The RCC preserved the knowledge it wanted and destroyed heretical knowledge. Literacy went DOWN in the dark ages to the point where only the clergy and the royalty were educated. Obviously you can't be pro-education if you are only allowing the clergy and the royalty to be educated. Pro-science? are you serious?

I think you need to research a little because you are confusing periods of history. This might help a little.

Islam is not doing so bad within Somaliland.
Infact my country is an example of the fact Democracy and Islam can mix.
And yet the Muslim population continues to grow.
Ok... Alter Boy Ludahai ....
Perhaps you failed history. Perhaps you've never heard of the crusades, the witch trials, the english conquest of Ireland and/or Scotland.
These events were all perpartrated at the behest of the catholic church.
Pope Pius II tried to have Elizabeth I murdered because she was protastant.
Go get a history book.
And grieving over these actions is better somehow?
maybe not... or maybe awareness of these deeds are one baby step closer to correcting them. Either way, apathy is a step backwards.
Another dimension to the problem is that people use stories like this to make themselves feel elevated for being in a "better" part of the world. It's a scapegoat phenomenon. When you judge others from a distance you have the convenience of being removed from the context of the situation, and also from the culture where it took place. Instead of real learning, people engage in pointing the finger. It distracts people from looking at ways they can improve their own lives and their immediate environment, and often this distraction is self-sought. That too is a step backward.
Sharia law is outdated nonsense that does fit in the current century.
It's nothing more than a brainwashing tool used by extremists to control the minds of their people.
This is evident is Islamic sewers like Iran and Afghanistan where conversion away from Islam is an instant death sentence.
DO NOT attempt to justify Sharia law to me. Sharia Law = GARBAGE!
Your point about Somalia is taken.
I still believe those women would fare better if Islam was not running their government.
This is my point. Islam cannot govern fairly; therefore it should not govern.
Theocracy doesn't work.
Everybody on this planet except the muslim population has figured this out and moved passed it.
Why can Islam not evolve?
This is ABSOLUTE 100% proof that Dawud is an extremist.
If there was no islam in the government, many would still be alive.
Jesus camp. nuff said.
If there was no religion in the world - even more people would still be alive.
Nice try ... but wrong.
Those evangical wackos do not make the law and they do not murder people for converting away.
That is the key difference.
You CANNOT compare the two. Doing so is rather assinine.
That is true. I do not deny that. Of course, the world would be a vastly different place.
That's basically what I was going to say. :cheers:I've seen Jesus Camp. The Evangelicals don't make the law, but they attempt to influence it through a variety of ways. The first is via lobbying congress people that empathize with religious wackos; the second is by indoctrinating the youth with political messages reinforced with religious dogma. In "Jesus Camp", a cardboard cut out of Bush is shown as some kind of messiah.
The metaphor is accurate: religion being used to influence free-thinking, political process.

So who were the NYT, WaPo, Newsweek, Rolling Stone, et al attempting to indoctrinate with the Obamessiah front page photos?
It ain't a accurate comparison to Islam where religion and politics are closely intertwined and where no such separation is desired or even permitted.
