MONTREAL — The rainbow flag will fly over city hall in Old Montreal for the duration of the Winter Olympics.
Mayor Denis Coderre has confirmed that like other Canadian cities, Montreal will fly the flag.
The local LGBT community is hailing this as a positive note of protest against the oppressive and discriminatory practices against gays, lesbians, bisexuals and transgender people in Russia, where the games are being held.
Awesome! It's a wonderful gesture.
Though, I'd love to see some rainbow flags during the Parade of Nations.
They may be arrested... but I agree.
I doubt Russia would arrest any athlete for breaking that obscene law. It would just tarnish them in a way they don't want.

When their personal life is dragged into the political and legal realm, sure. It's an entirely natural reaction. This confirms what I've been afraid of, he LGBT activist have politicized sex.

Not really this time. It's more about who they're allowed to love, and less about sex.
Don't hang around too long waiting for a coherent response. He seems to be a strong supporter of limited government while also being an admirer of Vladmir Putin. What do you have against protesting a human rights violation?
That's even worse, love has been politicized.

If your local law enforcement passed laws forbidding you and your wife from holding hands in public, would holding hands anyhow somehow cheapen the act itself and the affection behind it? Or were you and your partner thrust into the political arena through no choice of your own? That's even worse, love has been politicized.
The cities of St. John's, Quebec City, and Montreal will fly the rainbow LGBT flag to protest the treatment of gays in Russia for the duration of the Olympics in Sochi.
This article can be found at the Montreal Gazette.
I hope more cities will choose to protest the anti-gay laws in Russia by doing this. Hopefully we can get more Canadian cities to do it as well as some American cities. Do you think that your/nearest city would raise the LGBT flag?
Maybe it's the cynic in me, but this seems the very definition of pointless posturing
I believe the law is that only traditional man-woman relationships be taught to minors.
yep, that puts them right up their with the Nazi's. Can executions be far behind?
You have to remember the Winter Olympics are a rather big deal here and in Russia.
And?

I agree that's even worse... but it isn't the LBGT's that did it, but rather the lovely and great Russians, who are leading the world in other areas such as Syria, Iran and other major worldwide issues.
Gotta love those peace loving progressive Russians (not).
