I've long noted that when authoritarianism comes, there tends to be a 'boiling frog' metaphor issue, where people adapt more than they expected. It sound terrible before it's in place, and people tend to see it as less harmful than it is when it is. Rachel sort of discusses that and other issues about the change with trump.

She is not wrong.

Oh my goodness.....shut it down after about 45 seconds, lol. No wonder people are crazy as hell, listening, absorbing, and believing this BS.....hell no.

"We're in a dictatorship, it's here and now", lol.......parrot away liberals and progressives, parrot away.

What was factually wrong about Maddow's claims?

Why doesn't she realize that all Presidents are authoritarian. It's part of their job description, after all. And it's not a bad thing. It's required.

btw, Maddow is just trying to stir up her useful idiots. But the fact is, Trump is NOT a dictator. He's the President.

Weird, confusing executive with authoritarian.

Weird, confusing executive with authoritarian.
Read the Constitution.

All power in the executive branch is vested in the President. That means the President is the authority and everything a good president does will be authoritarian.

The problem with the Trump haters is that they want to make authoritarian into a bad thing. In reality, a president who is not an authoritarian is not a good president. They are a weak and powerless president.

I certainly see it here in TX where Republicans are trying to Gerrymander another 5 seats so they can win every election. And they have been completely transparent about it. Giving the middle finger to voters and basically saying we don't have a choice is indeed authoritarianism.

The weird thing is - and I think this needs to be understood - they don't necessarily see themselves as being authoritarian the way we do. They see it as finally getting the chance to right all the political illegitimacy of the last 100 years. They still intend to have elections. This will still be a constitutional republic as far as they're concerned.

Are many of their voters and even the president's current political surrogates delusional and potentially dead-wrong? Absolutely, but their value system is about power. The way they see it, having virtues is meaningless without power to implement them, and having that power for just 2-4 years, just so some political upstarts can derail it all isn't good enough. They need to reinvent the republic so that it is made in the image of the corporation.

You are confusing "authoritarian" for "authority".
Authority refers to the legitimate right to exercise power based on established rules and laws. Authoritarianism is a political system characterized by the concentration of power in a single entity and the suppression of political freedoms and civil rights.
Donald is an authoritarian.
Do you understand now?

She is bat shit crazy and there are reasons no one watches her or her station anymore. She has been wrong on just about every issue since she started.

“Virtue, without which terror is destructive; terror, without which virtue is impotent. Terror is only justice prompt, severe and inflexible; it is then an emanation of virtue.”

You keep saying that when Trump has had the most lawsuits against his policies of any President at this point in his term. You can track all of them here...

Trump just fired the Labor and Bureau of Statistics guy because they posted numbers he didn't like. That it what authoritarians do.

You listened much longer than you say you did....dictatorship did not come up until 90 seconds.

LOL Do you even know what a dictatorship is? I think not. A dictatorship is when one man thinks he can make all the rules and that is Trump.

The Dictatorship of the Magaletariat. The literate and educated elite fascists directing and controlling the Mass of Magamorons.

"Power has replaced law, usurpation has replaced amendment, and executive fiat has replaced constitutionalism.” So said political scientist David Gray Adler of the Alturus Institute.

So while your points are well taken the Magaletarians can take or leave a new "Basic Law" document that would be a constitution. Trump would however produce a written document of Basic Law only if it formalized the negatives in Adler's quote -- and then much more indeed. That is, only a constitution that documents Trumpolini can do whatever he wants of and by himself and only. And of the moment each time

Trump's natural and strong proclivity however is no documents. Y'know, all Trump has to do is to think it. And process his madcap thought too erratically for a proper process and authorizing document to exist. It would also be the case that a Basic Law document might involve precedent which Trump has no time, inclination and temperament to consider.

Just watching Rachel Maddox speaks volumes of the 'boiling frog' metaphor.

Exactly, like an alcoholic, drug addict, or gambler.....little here, little there, little more each week till over time they are consumed yet because it occurred over time, they never noticed their lives are in shambles, but actually think everything is okay and good.

Precisely what they did to them with all this propaganda being fed into their psyche. They literally cannot see the insanity, the utter ridiculousness, the destruction the emotion of hatred has had upon their lives but continue further. They honestly believe themselves to be living correct and good, afterall they are the "protectors of democracy", at least that is what they are supposed to believe.

I suppose you need to react this way since you are unable to refute what she actually says.

I know the democrats desire to unseat the Presidency with a "cabal", as they did under the Biden administration. They no longer can stand the thought of one man, one President elected by the People, instead would like to see the "shadow" group, behind the scenes running things, hence their angst and "losing it" mentality.

Still can’t refute what she has to say. That must bother you.
