R.I.P Brian Wilson

Pet Sounds is different, neither better nor worse than Sgt Pepper’s. Also, keep in mind that Brian Wilson did everything on his own, the Beatles had George Martin providing the expertise.
Sgt. Pepper's is a better album than Pet Sounds. Please. And George Martin was a better producer than Brian Wilson.

Sgt Pepper’s has great songs, but Lovely Rita, for instance, is a throw away.

Pet Sounds is a personal, introspective album about youth and loss. Sgt Pepper’s is a faux concert with really nothing holding it together other than the title song acting as bookends.

Aside from Day In The Life, which they interestingly added to the end after the bookends, how well do the songs hold up today?

Wouldn’t It Be Nice, God Only Knows and Caroline, No are more than a match to anything on Sgt Pepper’s. And they hold up today.

Wow. Out of respect for Mr. Wilson I'm going to leave this here.

You are clearly entitled to your own opinion. But comparing two very different albums isn’t productive.

There is a recognition among older British music journalists that the Beach Boys were an equivalent to the Beatles. That recognition had waned among younger musicians and journalists over here by the 80's though.

You can't go wrong with the 3 B's..... Beatles, Beach Boys, Byrds.

FYI- Brian Wilson had nothing to do with Kocomo.

Brian was all of 24 when he produced Pet Sounds.

The great groups of the 60's all had their own style and fit their own niche. And the top 40 was far more interesting back then to listen to...

Heard part of this last night on the radio.

Wilson, who has died at the age of 82, was the creative force behind The Beach Boys. He wrote and produced many of their hits, including "I Get Around," "Help Me Rhonda," and "God Only Knows." Wilson spoke to Terry Gross in 1988 and 1998 about creating the distinctive Beach Boys sound and his decision to leave the Beach Boys to pursue a solo career. Plus, Ken Tucker reviews new albums by Willie Nelson and Ken Pomeroy.
