Seems Putin has gotten quite cocky and arrogant.....10 Warships. Plus lets not forget they Put a Flag on the Bottom of the artic ocean as well.
"We will not only reopen the military base but restore the airfield to working order and make it possible for the emergency services, hydrologists and climate specialists to work together to ensure the security and effective work of the Northern Sea Route.".....snip~
Yeah.....restore an Airfield. Just for Emergency Services, he says. Hydrologists and Climate Specialists he says. 4 nuke powered Ice Breakers......what was the Hurry again?
Howdy MMC! Well you know I think going forward were going to be seeing more nations standing up to what they perceive as US aggression, imperialism, hegemony, you know both Russian and Chinese military expenditures are on steroids over the last 5-10 years, a simple google search and the graph goes straight up.
(Reuters) - Russia is reopening a Soviet-era military base in the Arctic, President Vladimir Putin said on Monday, part of a drive to make the northern coast a global shipping route and secure the region's vast energy resources.
Two decades after abandoning it, Russia has sent 10 warships behind four nuclear-powered ice breakers to the base on the Novosibirsk Islands, a show of force as it resumes a permanent naval presence in the thawing region.
The flotilla was led by Russia's flagship nuclear-powered cruiser, Peter the Great, along the Northern Sea Route, which connects Europe to Asia across Russian waters from the Kara Gate to the Bering Strait.

Here are a few things that are still true after President Obama’s much-mocked deal with Russian President Vladimir Putin over Syria’s chemical weapons:
The United States, which houses about 4 percent of the world population, accounts for 39 percent of global military spending. America’s military spending matches at least the next ten biggest spenders put together.
America and its formal allies spend around 75 percent of the world’s world’s military dollars. That number is projected to fall to a historic low by 2015 — a still whopping 60 percent.
148 countries (75 percent of all nations) play host to American troops. American foreign bases house by far the most technologically advanced ground, naval, air, and unmanned forces in human history.
US GDP is about twice that of its nearest competitor, China. A recent slowdown in Chinese economic growth suggests Beijing may not catch Washington until the 2100s.
International institutions — the U.N., the IMF, the World Bank — all work to make the rest of the world OK with the American-led order by providing tangible benefits, like free trade on the high seas and means for states to resolve disagreements peacefully.
according to some people who do not believe everything the beltway press says, Russia did not gain anything new out of the syrian deal.
No, Syria Is Not Proof Of American Decline | ThinkProgress
Guess they didn't consider and count on Political influence. Seems the BRIC Nations are all coming on line. (nows who backyard is that) Also that part about not converting to US dollars and accepting each others currency. Should be a wake Up call for those working at Think Progress, one would think.
As well as Putin working those back into the Customs Union.
what countries views of russia have changed because of syria? has turkey or any other county kicked our troops and military bases out of their territory?
has Russia lost or gained any major allies as a consequence of its position on Syria. Has Russia's economy been affected by its position in Syria?
the best case scenario for Russia militarily is that Assad's regime holds out and Russia keeps it's naval base at tartus.
besides, obama got what he wanted- a agreement to rid Syria of its chemical weapons stockpiles- without firing a shot
Evidently.....Armenia, huh?
What is it you are trying to state UWS.....that Putin hasn't gained in Political influence. Has he lost or gained any major allies. Do you think that cementing them. Making ourright bold moves Right in front of our face that put us into a confrontational position with each other. Accounts for anything. Notice all that hoopla about them Building another Nuclear reactor in Iran while giving them S300s Stated Openly, despite sanctions and embargo on Iran. Done thru the Worldwide Media. Did that one escape your attention?
What are we going to and look at what the US conducts as Business as the Proof. What that little piece with the NY Times wasn't enough for your taste to understand the slap in the face he put up. I doubt any who are someone were blind to not have noticed.
Oh you are worried about Obama and what he got. While in the meantime.....Obama didn't get what he wanted. Which was Assad to step down. Which was to remove Assad. So No Obama didn't get what he wanted. Nor did he get to make strikes that would have helped the Rebel/Terrorists in their efforts to take power. Nor did he get to weaken Assad's conventional forces.
Moreover with what you are saying.....thats not the way the rest of the Planet is seeing it.
the chemical weapons were the issue, and i don't think the goal is to help the rebels gain power. i think what obama wants is to somehow bring both sides to the negotiating table, and stop the war from tearing up the country.
That's all nice wishing and whatnot.....but there is no getting around. From the time that France, Britain, officially recognized the Rebels/Terrorists as the Ruling and Official government of Syria. Nor Obama Stating Assad must go. Then that the FSA and SNC stated they would not go to any peace talks. Now Idris says it again. Now their newly Elected Prime Minister says there will be no negotiations. Assad Must go. That's despite the US telling them not to hold such an election. Since the UN and All were dealing with Assad. So the US has known all along that the Rebels would not go to the first Peace talk that were set up. Plus now we watched them refuse to go to another set that were set up. Cant have peace if one of the parties refuses to come to the table.
Moreover that's not the issue that was being discussed about Putin gaining Political Influence on the World Stage. Putin making bold moves that puts our Policy into a direct confrontation. Nor does it lessen the impact of Putin Moving fleets around. Enmasse.....other than for War games with China. When have you heard the Russians moving their Naval Fleets enmasse?
Also on a footnote.....the statements made about pinpricking. Johnny Quest McCain running in and siding with Obama. While pushing to help the Rebels/Terrorists take Power pretty much showed. It would be about Regime Change.....despite the denial that such would not be the intention. Since all were concerned about striking and not doing anything to affect what was happening on the ground.
russia can move it's fleet to Jupiter, it still does not change the fact we still have the most powerful military fleet. i don't give a flying fish cake about what Putin says about us, he is nothing but a merchant of death selling weapons to the Assad regime. he is profiting every time a russian-made bullet kills a civilian, and that is what makes me sick.

Yeah okay.....so who says the US doesn't have the Most powerful Fleet. Right.....you don't care what Putin says. Seems theres a whole nother world out there that does. Moreover, they are paying attention.
Where was the US response to Putin stating he would build another nuclear Reactor in Iran? That he would outright defy a UN agreed Ruling for Sanctions and Embargo. How much time do you think we need to make a response to this? Do you think going over the 3 day News cycle is a bit to long? So after a week how are we looking now?
Yeah he is profiting and so to is the US.

An interesting conspiracy theory I was thinking is what if Obama and Putin have made an agreement to "escalate" things so that their respective military complexes could be increased. We can't have increased military spending without a threat, so both sides are playing their roles.
Like I said, a conspiracy theory nonetheless, but an interesting one in my mind to me at least
Wasn't Prescott Walker Bush involved in supplying oil to Hitler's army in some back door fashion. Sure war makes money, US and global economy is faltering, big time. Many have argued it was WW11 that lifted us out of depression, not the New Deal. The MIC was born and the subsequent rise of the middle class.
