I don't think people realize how badly the Alaska meeting went for Trump and Ukraine.

By passing on Trump's ceasefire demand Putin is able to continue attacks on Ukraine as the long negotiations go on. A ceasefire would have meant an immediate halt to attacks which he clearly didn't want.

He not only got his way but Trump declared this slight-of-hand as a win.

Medvedev said today that further US sanctions seem to be off the table. Another TACO for a Putin win.

On Monday Trump will tell Zelensky that Putin wants peace and browbeat him to negotiate and compromise. Zelensky isn't the fool that Trump is so it will be interesting to see his response. He'll be better prepared this time knowing that Trump and Putin's goals are aligned against Ukraine.

Papers with U.S. State Department markings, found Friday morning in the business center of an Alaskan hotel, revealed previously undisclosed and potentially sensitive details about the Aug. 15 meetings between President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir V. Putin in Anchorage.

Are Trumpists deliberately or accidentally careless/stupid? Good grief.

Mr. McFaul makes a very valid point and I want to repeat his question to our resident members: what positive outcome has Trump ever achieved for Ukraine or the US in his years of "negotiations" with Putin?

I can't think of a single thing.

Yes and Trump being Putin's waterboy did not sit well with Ukraine or the europeans. Now Trump has summoned Zelensky to the Whitehouse so he can yell at him and kick him out again. That is how Trump show his "strength". Blaming the leader of a country invaded by Russia for not wanting to surrender to genocide by a murderous dictator who has killed millions.

Trump to meet Zelensky on Monday after "difficult" post-summit call​


After his summit with Russian President Putin in Alaska on Friday, President Trump will meet Ukrainian President Zelensky for what could be a difficult meeting at the White House on Monday afternoon.

Why it matters: Trump's positions coming out of the meeting — that he no longer supports a ceasefire, and it's "up to President Zelensky" to make peace — appear highly unfavorable to Ukraine.

Driving the news: Zelensky and Trump announced their upcoming meeting after a phone call between Trump, the Ukrainian president and several NATO leaders during which the president briefed them on his meeting with Putin.

  • The call, which lasted more than an hour an a half, "was not easy," a source with direct knowledge said.
  • The meeting will take place six months after their disastrous Oval Office meeting in February.
Behind the scenes: Trump called Zelensky from Air Force One on his way back to Washington from Alaska. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and White House envoy Steve Witkoff, who were in the Trump-Putin meeting, were also on the call.

  • They spoke with Zelensky for an hour and then the leaders of the U.K., France, Germany, Italy, Finland, NATO and the European Commission joined the call for another half hour.
  • According to the source, Trump told Zelensky and the NATO leaders that Putin doesn't want a ceasefire and prefers a comprehensive agreement to end the war.
  • "Trump said on the call that he thinks a fast peace deal is better than a ceasefire," the source said.
Between the lines: That's the opposite from the approach Trump originally endorsed. Zelensky has been adamant that there must be a ceasefire before peace talks.

Trump also told Zelensky that Putin had told him that Russia was making significant progress on the front lines and that if he wanted, he could capture the entire Donetsk region and other areas where fighting is taking place.

  • According to the source, Zelensky told Trump that Putin was misrepresenting the situation on the front.
  • During the call, Witkoff briefed Zelensky and the NATO leaders on how Putin sees the issue of territory and what he's willing to give in return.
  • "The impression was that in return for territory, Putin is willing to end the war and commit not to try and occupy more areas in Ukraine and to not attack other countries," the source said.

The really sick part of that is that the world knows that nothing Putin promises is worth the paper it is printed on and Trump will try to convince Zelensky otherwise. He is truly trying to be a Chamberlain and is so clueless about history that he does not even know it.

Zelelnsky can not allow himself to cede anything. He will be killed the next day by his nazie "friends".
But this is not needed. It is sufficient if US acknowledged independence of Donbass and Crimea. The European allies will follow suit , sooner or later.

Trump isn't the one who demanded a ceasefire. That is Ukraine and their EU buddies.

Trump just wants the war to end and that's why he's supporting a peace deal instead of a ceasefire.

Putin owned Trump, that is a fact. I know it's hard to accept but at some point you have to accept that Trump is a fat useless child who never did enough balls to stand up to Putin.
In case you still don't get it - Trump is a fecal human being who will go down in history as the biggest joke among American presidents.

Now tell me how much I suffer TDS and hate Trump in an effort to excuse my assessment and to ease your ego.
