Popkov, 42, who co-founded Ton-M in 2014, was known for his investigative reports on abuse of power and corruption, as well as his criticism of functionaries from the leading Kremlin-backed United Russia party. The newspaper, published under the motto, "We write what other people stay silent about," was well-known in Krasnoyarsk Krai and had been subject to threats and pressure from authorities. It has also been the target of politically motivated police raids, according to media reports. In an August 2016 editorial, Popkov wrote that Ton-M was "accustomed to being a pain in the neck for many officials who are trying to [silence us] in every possible way," through "phone threats, intimidating searches, and interrogations." He added that the authorities were concerned about the "corruption incidents that we reveal."
And, to think, some people wonder why real Americans prefer we not have Putin's puppet in the White House.

Of course, those "some people" would probably dance in the street if a few so-called liberal journalists in the US began showing up dead. Wouldn't they?
You mean like these murders:

I'm not sure if Seth Rich was included here.
All taking place within the Clinton Bermuda Triangle of influence.

Trump & Putin would love to be able to kill every journalist on the planet, if they could only get away with doing it ......................

Putin: Anything US touches turns into Libya or Iraq
Published on Aug 29, 2014
Answering questions during a Q&A session at the “Seliger-2014” youth forum, Russian president Vladimir Putin pointed to Iraq and Libya as examples of 'doomed' unilateralism and why such a policy approach makes consensus at UN tough to reach.

Your thread title is very misleading and reads like a MSM headline. Did Putin walk up to the guy and shoot him? Were there witnesses? I think you're a reporter for CNN in disguise.
No. All nonsense. But I agree that Putin is a bad man.

Now, suppose Putin did have some journalist killed. And? What? The US not only partnered with Stalin it is partners today with Saudi Arabia.
Political parties and democracy are outlawed in Saudi Arabia. Saudi Arabia is run under an absolute monarchy. It is one of the most oppressive countries on earth. Churches, synagogues, Buddhist and Hindu temples are illegal. Even the Bible is illegal in that country. Non-Muslims are barred from citizenship but can live in Saudi Arabia on work visas. Non-Muslims are by law barred from entering the City of Mecca. And a boy that was arrested at age 17 for peacefully demonstrating at a pro-democracy rally in Saudi Arabia stands awaiting the death penalty. He was sentenced to death for disrespecting the Guardian. Is the Guardian Putin? No, the "Guardian" is the King of Saudi Arabia. The boy's method of death planned out is a beheading, then crucifying his body upside down on a cross, then leaving it there publicly for 3 days as a warning and lesson to all others who dare show any disrespect to the King or try to change Saudi Arabia.
That is not Putin. Of course "real Americans" will try to write up fictional images of him to portray him like that and with as much absolute power in Russia.
I would propose to you "real Americans" don't even know what is going on in their own country or own Federal Government let alone what is going on in Russia.
So, that is objective fact, in case example, of the power of the King or monarchy of Saudi Arabia.
And Obama and American liberals are perfectly fine with partnering with the regime of Saudi Arabia. Trump is too.
But why? Well as the IRS and many investigators might say, "follow the money."
This trailer for this outstanding book written by a Canadian who has global experience in the energy investment field provides a little info on why the US has an unholy alliance with Saudi Arabia and why they hate Putin. And revolves around the Petrodollar hypothesis. Has nothing to do with US Government (or "real Americans") "high moral standards."
Putin has been desperate to get out from under these sanctions so that his regime can thrive domestically and internationally. His goals appear to be twofold. First, he seeks to restore some form of Russian empire—with at least informal dominion over all the territories of the former Soviet Union—while forcing the West to accept this new balance of power and treat Russia as a superpower once again. Second, he seeks to invert Woodrow Wilson’s famous call to arms and instead “make the world safe for autocracy.” Democracy is his enemy. He is smart enough to know that he cannot undermine it everywhere, but he will subvert, corrupt, and confuse it wherever he can.
And so Putin’s regime has been embarked for some years now on an opportunistic but sophisticated campaign to sabotage democracy and bend it toward his interests, not just in some marginal, fragile places but at the very core of the liberal democratic order, Europe and the United States. As The Telegraph reported in January, Western intelligence agencies have been monitoring a Russian campaign on a Cold War scale to support a wide range of European parties and actors—illiberal parties and politicians of both the far left and far right—that are sympathetic to Russia and Putin. This includes not just newer neo-fascist parties, but anti-immigrant far-right parties like the National Front of France—which obtained a 9 million euro loan from a Russian bank in 2014—and the Freedom Party of Austria, both of which have been gaining popularity for some time.
And, to think, some people wonder why real Americans prefer we not have Putin's puppet in the White House.
