The sanctions against Russia are simply a leg of an economic war attempting to bankrupt Russia.
The US/EU/G7 sanctions against the Russian Federation are in place to persuade Moscow to return the stolen Crimea and withdraw from eastern Ukraine. No country has by force annexed another nations land in Europe since the end of WWII.
Moscow has abrogated these agreements/treaties with its invasion and occupation of Ukraine...
