Yes. This guy and his wife are jerks. Yes, they do not provide ID. But this does not need to be a double arrest. They are not fighting. Yes, they are arguing... but does it really take 5 cops and 2 arrests because this guy was driving a ****ing golf cart? To make matters worse they have small kids in the house that don't even know the parents are in the back of police cars.

In New Zealand or England or other civilized places this would have been a longer conversation or they would have just ticketed the guy through the house hold.

EDIT:

What guy? What golf cart? No link?

It is up now... it is raining but we had a brief but massive downpour coming in at a 45 degree angle just then and I had to run off and shut windows...
LOL

All of this could have been resolved by:
- Providing an ID when the Officer requested it.

Interesting how the man and women present the situation. driving a golf cart and not mentioning where.

It is not surprising that 5 Officers showed up.

imo, the driver of the golf cart should have given the Officer his ID, let the Officer either issue a warning or ticket. Instead he wants to go on a rant about it is his house/private property, should have pulled me over back on the public road, etc.

Sorry, you can't fix stupid.

Skimmed through bits. Take your warning or ticket and shut up. Unregistered vehicle on roadway, your bad.

Good thing he wasn't pulled over for DUI. Then he'd be arguing he can't be cited because he is now on his property!

In my state you can tag a golf cart for roadway use with certain requirements/restrictions. Have a village near me where people are cruising carts all over the neighborhood. Even out on the main roadway through town.

Same around me. I am getting a Kei Truck to move things about. They are most useful little trucks too bad they dont allow them in the US unless they are over 20 years old. 44502b5b3f1807d76a69362e39571c34.webp

This is the problem though... why the US is out of control in arrests and has abusive cops... and that people accept it and/or just shrug it off.

There was no need for this in the first place, especially the mother. Give her a warning, sure. Detain the guy and talk to him longer, or... just write him a ticket with address and if the Court does not get the money by X-date then put out a warrant.

EDIT:

The golf-cart guy is wrong.

If the law requires the presentation of I.D. when driving on a public road, he has to present it. He was given plenty of chances to produce, and warned by the supervisor of the consequences.

The wife physically interfered with the arrest, which also is a big no-no. My suspicion is if she would have immediately backed-off when first pulled away, she would have been O.K. Instead, even when held away by the cops she continued to struggle & tried to re-enter the fray.

This couple are not criminals, but they are naive to reality, and I think they got what they deserved. With luck, they might plea-out without consequence of a record. In fact, I believe that will be the case. If, of course, they can remain cooperative with the States-Attorney & the Judge. Hopefully, they learned their lesson.

In Canada there'd be an arrest for being that uncooperative.

Not sure why the woman was arrested.

It may not even have involve a warning ticket. The couple looked like clean-cut, home-owner, taxpaying, ordinary citizens. After running the guy's license for warrants, which is SOP, if the driver was clean with a decent record, and cooperative, he may have gotten away with a verbal warning.

Now he's going to have a serious criminal record.

How can you write a ticket without identifying the guy?

As to the girl, she not only jumped-in, but continued to struggle to join back in while being held. I suspect if she would have chilled when first pulled away, she would be at home making calls arranging her man's bail.

She physically interfered when the cops went to cuff her man. But worse, when she was pulled-off, she later tried to re-enter the fray. I think it was the last act, that doomed her.

Ahh that'll do it.

Maybe not.

If his record's clean, and he changes his attitude, he might plea it down, or at worse take supervision. In fact, if he has a clean record and mea-culpa cooperates, I think the chances are reasonable that he avoids a conviction

This was at best a ticket, could have been resolved in under a half hour with just passive cooperation, but no... the golf cart driver had to mouth off.

Police were not in the wrong, this was begging for an arrest and it happened.

and the US is out of control with people who believe the law does not apply to them.

The mother should not have got between the LEO and her husband. If she would have stayed off to the side I doubt if she would have even been ticketed.

Sorry, but in this case the citizens were out of line. imo, the LEO was in the right.

It's certainly not an example of cops "out of control". They were all pretty professional imo.

Bingo.

I was waiting for the guy to go into a "Sovereign-Citizen" type spiel!

Naïve arrogance, that's what it is.

Hell, if the driver would have been contrite & cooperative, with a reasonably clean driving record, he might have only receive a verbal warning.

100%. He is completely in the wrong. My argument is not the law... but that cops turn what could be a discussion or learning experience into a double arrest and leaving the kids without their parents... over.... what? Driving a golf cart on the road and a guy that is a jerk?

She initially stepped in but did nothing to stop the cops or really even attempt to stop them. They could have just pulled her away and warned her.

If you can drop a Trespass Notice at a person's feet that refuses to take the Notice then surely we can work something out with a ticket.

She is a little woman who did nothing to impede the officers.

Police need to learn to de-escalate. That was the point...

I said that this is not about the law but about police attitudes, impatience and people just accepting it.
