The only time I ever got "mugged," I was pissing in an alley. It wasn't that bad. We joked with each other, I handed him five bucks, and he left. "I don't want to have to rob you, man." "I don't want that, either. Here you go." He left, and I went back in and finished the show. I can't remember why I went outside to piss. Probably because I liked to be alone and have a smoke between sets. He didn't buy the slice of pizza that he said he needed the money for, but I didn't expect that he would. It was a good show, though.

One night in London I relieved myself in a doorway. Two 'bobbies' were walking toward & stopped me. Passport, etc. 'Appalling,' one said eyeing my wake. But they let me crawl on to the next pub. This was in Whitehall. Since Maggie Thatcher's day, lots of police & CCTV. And 99% of the porn shops had vanished.

In London, I pissed inside. Much better bathrooms. I don't think that I got pissed, but I did have a few pints, and I bought vodka at the Tesco.

Ah yes, the 'loo'. Easy to get that mixed up in Europe as in France it's the 'lieu.'

In Paris we ate dinner in an oldtime restaurant that translates as 'Roger the Frog.' The 'lieu' was ancient & consisted of only a hole in the antique porcelain floor. One of our American dates that I'd met that day at 'Les Invalides' went to the 'lieu' expecting a modern NYC john. She came back in a hurry, ashen faced. But another 20 minutes she went back to practice her squatting. As they say, travel is broadening.

London was great. If money and time hadn't been factors, I would have spent a lot more of both there.

I preferred Paris. Especially the Rue St Denis. If you saw Irma La Douce with Paul Lemon & Shirley McClain, the main set was copied from that ancient street, which was the red light district.
