The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported on Sunday that Ferguson police officers began wearing body cameras this past Saturday. Embattled Ferguson police chief Tom Jackson told The Post that 50 cameras were donated to the police department from Safety Visions and Digital Ally in the wake of 18-year-old Michael Brown’s shooting death at the hands of Ferguson police officer Darren Wilson. The unarmed Brown was shot dead on August 9th after an incident that began with Wilson confronting Brown and his friend, Dorian Johnson, for jaywalking. Brown was shot six times and an audio recording from the time of the shooting indicates that Wilson fired at Brown at least ten times.
Per Jackson, the cameras were first utilized during the day Saturday due to that day’s activities. A peaceful march of at least a thousand protesters took place in Ferguson on Saturday morning. The march, which was led by Brown’s parents, started on W. Florissant Ave., where most of the protests have occurred in the aftermath of the shooting, and ended right in front of the Ferguson police department headquarters. Hundreds of protesters remained gathered near the building for much of the day, chanting and making their voices heard regarding their desire to see Officer Wilson arrested.

I believe all police departments should have to wear body cameras, it not only brings more accountability to the department, but can be a protection against police brutality. This department definitely needs to wear cameras, hell all departments should. Only bad cops should be worried about body cameras. [/FONT]

Why stop with cops? Ordinary people both commit and are victimized by crime all the time. If everyone wore a camera that would make investigating crime a whole lot easier. Just imagine how easy it would be for that bigot that claims to have been robbed by a black guy to get called on the carpet when the video shows that it was really a white guy. Hell, we could just mandate that all collected video be collected by the NSA and processed through a threat analysis program and we could stop crime before it even [maybe] happened!

What an idiotic comparison.
Are ordenary citizens somehow under a contract to enforce the law and peace in their communities?!
I doubt that there will be no change. :shrug:It isn't going to change a thing. People who hate cops are just going to claim that the video was doctored. We'll still have the same situation we have now but with more video to bicker over.
It is going to stop a lot of false claims made against Officers.
No, that is what you would do.That's great, and it would have given the evidence needed to make a judgement about what happened. People like you would ignore it if it contradicted them, but still...
How do you know I'm not going to randomly assault someone on the street? I figure that forcing me to wear a camera would be a fine deterrent to me committing a crime. I mean, hell, if I knew it was going to be recorded I'd be less inclined to be an asshole, right? That's the reasoning we're getting in this argument at least.
This isn't about me. Or didn't you know that?"Cops are always right, they never do wrong, everything they do is justified"- Exxcon

Secondly. Your assertion is absurd. As it has also been said that I think Police can do no right.
So can your bs.
There is no omission. Are you suggesting by your omission that it won't have any effect on police behavior as well?
I can agree that the cameras are a good idea.
On the flip side, cameras can show how some citizen when engaged by the police can be total jerks, esculate the situation, threw the first punch, ect.
So it can be a protection against false police brutality claims. Just saying.
imo, cameras can help the public as well as LE.
The thing is.
A cop is obliged to enforce the law. Something I mentioned in my previous post and which you either ignored or dont understand the concept of.
It means that he has to be held accountable to the highest ethical standards and has to follow these standards when interacting with the community.
Otherwise, the trust in authorities by the community is destroyed.

The trust of the police by various communities is being destroyed by a small number of bad cops and a large number of "social justice" assholes who choose to make a mountain out of every molehill they come across.
:dohGood. We need to start holding our law enforcement accountable.
