So China prevented the spread of coronavirus by quarantining large areas, and restricting travel. China is an authoritarian state so the government had a lot of power to control it's citizens.

Britain on the other hand isn't locking people down or is it banning large gatherings. Britain's strategy is to let people get infected. Once the infected recover, they are immune to the disease. If enough people are immune, the virus can't spread. I imaging they protect the at risk people in some way.

Belgium is following the same strategy as Britain.

I think it is better I come down with the symptoms on a monday instead of a friday. beyond that, I just assume I will get it one way or the other.

I don't believe there is enough information available to know which of these two statements is closer to the truth.

The virus spreading uncontrolled all at once is going to overwhelm our health care system. Slowing the virus is not going to stop it from spreading, though it may reduce it some. The idea is to slow it to a point that our health care professionals can deal with it.
