Wouldn't it be fun if we still did things like that

Hillary would have been trump's vice president

trump would have had to serve under biden

Part of me thinks that it would actually be a much better solution. That would have resulted in much better governing over the years if there was the opposition in the same building

It's a terrible idea. Given Two Party, the VP will always be of the OPPOSITE party to the President.

You could not devise a better mechanism to cause political assassinations.

Sounds like a great recipe for Presidential assassination attempts to me.

You know, considering the 25th amendment lays out succession orders and puts the VP one heartbeat away from the Oval Office.

Maybe that's the part 21st liked.

That's one of the reasons the rule changed.

But still it would be hilarious to have trump working for Biden

Or hrc for trump

It would be the only way Harris would become president.

It would be more hilarious to throw Trump, Hillary and Jim Comey in the same prison cell.

Can we make a bigger cell? Lock up all of congress and executive branch.

Maybe scotus too

The VP doesn't have to follow any order given by the President. They have their own mandate. They can be impeached and removed by Congress.

It would be interesting, but not in the way you're thinking. The VP would be "leader of the Opposition" in the terms of parliamentary democracies: they would rank above Senate Pro Tem or Senate Minority Leader (and obviously above House equivalents Speaker or Minority Leader). They would be the President in Waiting.

Yet having no actual power. The VP has only two powers: breaking a deadlock in the Senate, and convening the Cabinet to depose the President temporarily under the 25th. The latter power would never be used (given that the President appoints the whole Cabinet) so "no actual power" is a fair approximation.

Giving a meaningless seniority to someone who has no procedural power, seems pretty silly to me.

Oh, and btw, the VP would not "have to" serve. They could resign, leaving the office vacant. Spiro Agnew.

I don't see leader of the opposition in the constitution as a description

I'm not entirely sure you're correct and parliamentary procedure automatically kicks in here

If you were to take this run up in the last two elections and plug them in as vice president even last three elections go back 2obama

What a wonderfully interesting dynamic that would be

Have hillary as president of mcdonald's senate

That was tried, that was an epic fail. History, the real history of our Republic seems to elude you at times... ✌️

So because I thought it would be amusing to post here you somehow think I wasn't aware that it was tried

Why do you think I thought of it being funny?

You spend a lot of time trying to judge people. You don't know rather than trying to actually contribute to this conversation or the world

It's kind of disappointing

It really does. In a parliamentary system, the Leader of the Opposition has a much higher profile than any member of Congress. They are the Leader in Waiting: you can be absolutely sure that if the Prime Minister loses majority control (of the Parliament) that the new Prime Minister will be that person. The former Leader of the Opposition.

There is no analogy in a Presidential system. Even Ford did not use the line of Secession: he was next in line after Agnew but he was appointed VP before becoming President.

Great Speakers or Senate pro-tems make a mark on history, but they are never Leader of the Opposition. They are never a drop-in replacement for the President.

Except in your fevered imagination.

Losing the tie-breaking vote in the Senate would be a small consideration. Hillary would have hung in there for the 5% chance Trump died or got removed by impeachment.

Now that I think about it, the President isn't the only person who would be endangered by your plan. If the Vice President dies, the office can be filled by the President with "advice and consent" of the Senate.

They would need to supply Trump with Depends as he would be shitting his pants.

It would be fun if we brought back "Super elastic bubble plastic", and gave everyone a baby goat.

No, your idea would be insane.

As useless insulting comments seem to be very common on this board

I'm not surprised

You're just following the herd

Bless your heart.

You are so special

It's amazing you would bother responding to something you felt that way about

Personally I just use the scroll

Trump would never have served under Biden. There would have been a Mar-a-Lago condiment massacre had anyone even suggested it to him.

But the meltdown would have been epic.
