Is an abomination in the eyes of God.

Praying to the saints and dead relatives is strictly forbidden in scripture.

“or one who conjures spells, or a medium, or a spiritist, or one who calls up the dead. For all who do these things are an abomination to the Lord, and because of these abominations the Lord your God drives them out from before you.”

‭‭Deuteronomy‬ ‭18‬:‭11‬-‭12‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

““Do not turn to mediums or necromancers; do not seek them out, and so make yourselves unclean by them: I am the Lord your God.”

‭‭Leviticus‬ ‭19‬:‭31‬ ‭ESV‬‬

Praying to the dead is not the same as being a medium. A medium claims to communicate with the dead, not pray to them.

17 After six days Jesus took Peter, James, and his brother John and led them up on a high mountain by themselves. 2 He was transformed[a] in front of them, and His face shone like the sun. Even His clothes became as white as the light. 3 Suddenly, Moses and Elijah appeared to them, talking with Him.

Imagine that, Jesus talking to two dead dudes.

There is a website called CARM, which is a site where the owner, Matt Slick, envisions his site as a training grounds for believers to practice debating and become better at it. I haven't been there for quite some time but was once a prolific poster there. I realized I was caught up in debating the meaning of scripture and then what the Greek translation "really" is. That meant non-believers were almost required to agree that the bible was inspired by a deity (God) and inerrant. When I would inquire as to why the posters believed that the best answers, I got were that "It says it in the bible", that "prophecies were fulfilled" (they weren't), or that "Certain geographical locations mentioned have been shown to have existed" (Like New York exists, so there must have been a Spider Man)

But, CARM attracted some true bible experts, and we have a few here and it was interesting to read how they disagreed what scripture meant, and I realized that when you debate with believers, you need them to fill out a questionnaire because you can get 10 people who say they are Christian and they all disagree on numerous bible passages, which is why there is something like 25 different denominations.

25? There are thousands. Over 200 in the USA alone, 45k worldwide.

This is a silly theological topic for debate. It is complete nonsense from a skeptical point of view. You can pray to your shoes or to a lampshade. It only matters in the world of make believe. It is ridiculous how religious beliefs are. They sound like superstitions about walking under ladders or breaking mirrors. If there was really a god that was concerned with trivial nonsense like this no one should follow such an idiotic being.

Nobody cares about the Bible.

Praying to the dead is strictly forbidden in the Bible. Deuteronomy 18:11 tells us that anyone who “consults with the dead” is “detestable to the Lord.”

He's talking to them

Not praying to them which is an abomination in the eyes of God.

So when Jesus was consulting with Moses and Ezekiel, was he being detestable?

Consulting = talking. Medium = communicating. Talking = communicating.

He's the sovereign God. He can do as he wills

We can't. Just that simple

Ah, do as I say, not as I do. Got it.

What about when Abraham and the rich man (both dead btw) were talking to each other (Luke 16)?

Praying to the dead is an abomination in the eyes of God and those who did were subject to execution.

Why does your all-powerful and all-knowing god allow this to happen in the first place? It sounds like their plans were defective, which is out of place for a god who your bible claims is all knowing.

Is the bible wrong or is your god incompetent? Or both.

A medium does not pray to dead people. A medium claims to communicate with them. You know, sorta like you and I communicate. It's a two way conversation. When you pray, it's only one way.

We are talking about Christians who pray to the dead. Its an abomination in the eyes of God.

Because scripture is clear God does turn the wicked over the their evil desires.

There were no Christians in the Old Testament times.

Practicing homosexuality is an abomination in the eyes of your god. In fact, your god declares that any who does forfeits his life.

What about that?
