Portugal's turn to see how Trump style populism works out as an election strategy.

LISBON, Portugal — Portugal’s caretaker government plans to expel some 18,000 foreigners living in the country without authorization, a minister said Saturday in the buildup to a national election.

Minister of the Presidency António Leitão Amaro said the center-right government will issue approximately 18,000 notifications to people in the country illegally to leave. The minister said officials will begin next week by asking some 4,500 foreigners to leave voluntarily within 20 days.

Apparently, today it's now illegal and immoral for nations to hold national elections from its citizens.....they are now anyone within the country has the right to vote, citizen/non-citizen, it matters not. Borders.....who needs them. Sovereign nations.....who needs them. The latest, greatest insanity from the left.

Well they are all brown in Portugal.. at least according to Americans :)

No I was thinking that they target North Africans and maybe Brits. They would get into problems with EU citizens. Brits would be the easiest since many have homes, but are not registered correctly or have overstayed their 90 day allowance... but that comes with a financial hit.

Really not sure on who they would target. Illegal immigration is not that big in Europe per say.

From the article below:

"The situation spiraled out of control after António Costa—then Portugal’s PM, and now president of the European Council—revolutionised the immigration system. Until August 2017, residence permits in Portugal were granted only upon presentation of an employment contract and a record of tax contributions. This was a reasonable—if insufficient—way of ensuring that immigrants would be able to make a living in Portugal. However, against the advice of the border service (the now defunct Serviço de Estrangeiros e Fronteiras), the far Left (Left Bloc) instead proposed allowing immigrants to reside in Portugal by merely registering themselves with Social Security and presenting a ‘labour contract promise.’ The new measures were enacted by the Socialist government with the votes of the far-left parties, giving rise to a whole industry of false contracts. The results were booming human trafficking networks and the entry of hundreds of thousands of illegal workers, hostages to schemes akin to modern-day slavery. At the same time, the new rules led to a significant increase in regularization requests for which SEF, now renamed AIMA, is unable to respond."

Sounds familiar, huh?

Portuguese issues are Portugal’s problem. Using it as an example as to how we should behave I’d suggest the following:

I don’t have a problem with telling people not to be here illegally. I don’t gave a problem with, after due process, expelling someone who broke our laws.

I have a problem with doing any of this in any ways that violate our laws, our Constitution. Why? There are a couple of reasons.

1) The patriotic: I very much respect that we are a nation of laws and the Rule of Law. I believe our Constitution to be a historically premier example of a people attempting to live an honest, well intentioned, ethical life as a free people. The greatest attempt at such to this date.

2) The rational/pragmatic: if you can violate our laws, our Constitution, denying due process to anyone standing amidst us you can potentially deny it to me. I’d not like that.

So a far right rag has the "facts" eh? Also, odd that for a so called journalist, this Ana Cristina Pinto is a ghost on the internet ... journalist wise. Really odd..

Also this line is odd..

The bold is mine, but.. that is EU rules being implemented, so how is it insufficient?

This smells more like a typical far right hit piece than an actual factual article.

Nobody on the left believes those things. Utter nonsense.

From the OP's article
Portugal will hold an early general election on May 18. Prime Minister Luis Montenegro called the snap ballot in March after his minority government led by his conservative Social Democratic Party lost a confidence vote in Parliament and stood down.

Portugal has been caught up in the rising European tide of populism, with its far-right Chega party surging into third place in last year’s election.

Portugal is probably another western nation that needs more young people and is cutting off its nose despite its face.

Okay, so only far left news sources are reputable.....got it. The far left has been proven to be the largest purveyors of misinformation/disinformation these last ten years. Understandable it's the narrative you must keep alive, but most realize the truth now.

No it's not. This is just hyper-partisan bullshit.

First- this has nothing to do with the election. There's nothing to indicate that expelling illegal residents is about them voting, nothing says non-citizens vote in Portugal.
Second- European countries that fed off colonies for centuries, exploiting the lands and people for centuries, get no sympathy from me when people from those countries show up at home.

Yeah sure......the last democrat administration illegally imported who knows how many millions, promoting human trafficking the world has never seen.....deaths and rapes galore, they didn't care.....get'em in here no matter the cost.....corruptly use taxpayer monies through NGO's to pay/facilitate illegal immigration. Do you just make this shit up yourself or is somebody telling you this because they know you'll believe it?

Liberal governments across the globe have been allowing/permitting massive illegal immigration, purposefully I might add. Keep your head in the sand, keep spreading bs rumors, the official narrative, et al.......it's all very purposeful, imo.

There is no "far left news" outside North Korea or Cuba maybe.

And what truth is that? That there are black and brown people in Portugal?

See how they work......why always bring race into an issue?.....so you can take the high moral ground to seem good?
