Pope confirms celibacy 'obligatory' for Catholic priests

If you read the Bible, the New Testament gives qualifications of church leaders, stipulating that they should have one wife. There is a good reason for that, and you can see the evidence for it in the Catholic church itself. God does not tell us to be repressed. God tells us that sex within marriage is a good thing. This bureaucratic, archaic, and medieval rule of the Catholic church is probably the main reason that many priests are child molesters.

Do you have a chapter/verse for the bold part. I don't remember ever reading or hearing that.
 
It's unfortunate that they will keep that practice, but it's not surprising. Though the historical context for which that particular rule came to be had to do with property.

Thanks I hadn't ever paid attention to that before. I know somewhere in Mathew Jesus talks about enuchs for the sake of the kingdom of heaven or something and I figured thats why priests have to be celibate but I didn't recall this Timothy passage.

As a catholic, I can tell you that there is absolutely no Biblical justification for celibacy in the priesthood. Even by the most liberal interpretation of Paul's "gift" of celibacy, one has to disregard this as being a requirement due to the fact that he was the one who penned the Timothy's which state church leaders should be married...
 
The churches absolute refusal to change anything, especially celibacy laws, was a major turn off for me and one of the many reasons I have left the catholic religion. To say they are following in Jesus's example of celibacy is just laughable. Whether or not Jesus had a family, I don't recall him preaching celibacy in any way. I don't know why but there is just something about that new pope that I just don't like. Maybe it's his refusal to open his eyes and see the real world.
 

I find Ratzinger a bit disquieting myself. I do not like him at all and I hope his reign as pope (I hate even saying that title in deference to him) is short lived so as to minimize the damage he can do.
 
There is nothing biblical about a celibacy int he church. It is one of the many Catholic laws created by man's interpretation of their own personal experiences and to protect Church's assets.

The Catechism of the Catholic Church has two entries on the subject of priestly celebacy.

Indeed. He certainly seams to be undoing alot of the progress his predecessor made in interfaith dialogue.

Here ya' go. Saint Malachy was a pretty interesting character, and his prophecy on the popes pretty accurate.

Based on the writings of Malachy, I guessed Ratzinger as the Pope that would follow John Paul II, while all our favorite mediawhores were still speculating who it might be. I got it right too.

The next, and last, Pope will be known as Peter the Roman, according to Malachy.

Okay...just to make a note...the AntiChrist or False Prophet and the Black Pope (Antipope) are actually two completely different things...

The Antipope almost always rises from the Jesuit order and works in direct opposition to the Pope. There can be both a Pope and Antipope at the same time and most always are (that is if you buy into that sort of garbage).

Check out the book Vatican's Assassins for an...interesting...read. The book is out of print because of the Catholic Church's influence, but you can find copies for around $400.00.

Source for this claim of the Church's influence the reason for it being out of print. Anti-Catholicism is so in vogue in the publishing and film-making world, I find this charge very hard to believe.

And denial of catholic influence being exerted is so typical among sheeple. I am Catholic, but I have no illusions that the Church doesn't exert its influence to protect its image.

Give me some proof of the assertion, or I will simply have to regard it as a baseless accusation against the Church, no different from the lies that are so popularly to be told against the Church in English speaking countries for centuries.

Of course ignoring the fact that I am a native of an English-speaking country. The fact is that you will simply believe any anti-Catholic propoganda without critically assessing the accusation and without providing any evidence to back up your slander against the Church. Typical of the anti-Catholic propoganda that exists in English speaking countries.
 

Lack of a link does not mean there is a lack of proof. I just have no way of showing it to you on the net so I have no interest in pursuing the issue with you. The fact is that you are simply making assumptions based on your own personal bias and transferring that bias against me. I let you know that I don't care. Nor will I ever.
