So you are gonna strip him of the last good thing that is left to his name? Forgiveness, my friend. His image is forever marred by what he has done. He is paying post-mortem prices now, both secular (and if you believe) spiritually. Let him be. Leave the statue, remember his legendary coaching career, but never forget what he did/

You are misrepresenting my quote if that's what you think it tries to imply. I agree that it was a personal flaw on Paterno's part, but that personal flaw allowed for the sexual abuse of children which is serious. The decision to murder someone else stems from a personal flaw, should a murderer be allowed to go free because the truth was out that they killed someone? What about if someone just witnessed serial killings but never said a word about it because it might compromise their image or the image of their company? Paterno deserves no honor for his coaching. He may have been good at coaching, but he put his team's image and coaching staff (Sandusky) above the well being of children and turned a blind eye to kids being sexually violated, that is dishonorable and in my opinion violates any kind of honorable merit that he may be entitled to due to him being able to coach well.
Using your logic they should also erect a statue to Sandusky, who was a phenomenal defensive coach. Oh, yeah, he raped children, but let's separate that from the fact that he had a successful coaching career.
Trust me, I understand where you're coming from. And no, I didn't take your quote that literally. Obviously a murderer should not be set free and, if he were still alive, Paterno ought not be physically set free. I'd be the biggest supporter of a prison sentence for him. he would deserve whatever punishment he were given.
ahh, bro, he basically facilitated child rape. The old geezer can go spin on a d*ck
Part of his coaching carreer was that he let this happen.
Why then, should his dishonorable coaching career that essentially facilitated child rape be honored with a statue? It would be like erecting a statue to Benedict Arnold honoring his service to the Continental army during the Revolutionary War even though he became a traitor and sided with the British.
I understand fully what he did and when it happened. That shouldn't strip him of his on field success
Because, he led his team better than any other coach in the NCAA

His onfield success was created by his offield actions. His recruiting, his training, and so on. One thing he did as part of his role as coach of the team was facilitate a man's ability to rather disgustingly molest(and that is putting it so mildly, the report on his actions was incredibly painful and I had to stop reading it very early) young children.
Because, he led his team better than any other coach in the NCAA
Okay. His offield actions were awful and despicable. That is hardly a matter of opinion. He should not receive this much attention for turning a blind eye. I'm pretty sure the punishment for facilitation is much less than actually doing
lol, like someone mentioned earlier, when you going to start collecting for the Sandusky statue

He knowingly allowed Sandusky to be in a position where he could do what he did to those kids. Her permitted it, facilitated it and directly allowed for it to happen by keeping Sandusky in that position.
Yes... and people have done all of those for serial killers and have gotten much lighter sentences. Sandusky isn't getting half of the limelight of Joe
I'm not aware of any convicted serial killers that got off lighter than Jo. Jo Paterno is in the spotlight largely because Sandusky has already been tried and found guilty. We know that Paterno knew about these things and covered them up. He should be in the limelight and although he didn't directly molest kids, he bears some of the responsibility for it.

I believe you are trying to paint me as heartless. It is not so. I am just forgiving and justice stops at justice. Removing the statue doesn't really do anything
Makes sure those families never have to walk by someone's statue who allowed their child to be abused.

It needs to be left up. His personal flaws have no holding on his legendary career. Micheal Vick is still a great quarterback
