Police say ICE tactics are eroding public trust in local law enforcement (NPR)​

It's happening again.

"In Santa Fe County, N.M., last month, local police leaders stood before a packed auditorium and showed photos of their uniforms so residents would know what they look like — and, more pointedly, what ICE does not.

"Whatever happens around the country, whoever is president, you are our community. We are your officers," Santa Fe Police Chief Paul Joye said with the help of a Spanish interpreter. "It is a fundamental human right that you feel safe in your home regardless of where you're from."

Meetings like this have been playing out nationwide in recent weeks. Police departments are holding town halls, releasing videos and statements, and adding FAQ sections to their websites. They're trying to communicate the same message: They are not immigration officers and residents should not be afraid to call them."

Various federal agencies are conducting arrests without identification and using generic "police"-labeled tactical gear to disguise their agency affiliations. This is the Trump version of a "secret police" force.
 
Fun story.

The entire idea of sanctuary cities was initiated by local cops, who wanted cooperation from the locals by promising that they wouldn't report them to ICE for talking to em.

Nobody should ****ing trust the goddamn cops anyway, but now we have less reason to. Have it your way, pigs.
 
I remember trump's goons' doing this in Portland last time around. It was a shitty tactic then, and it's not aged any better.

Making us into a police state is something none of us should applaud.
 
If we want witnesses to crime, to speak up when questioned about what happened last night to the elderly couple left for dead in the ally, or which teens were nearby when the store was broken into, we had better make sure people feel safe and that their family will still be safe, if they answer a few questions or maybe even testify in a courtroom.

You can't fight crime, if you can't get people to talk to you about what they know, saw or heard.

Happened in Los Angeles in 1979 — Special Order 40 — under Daryl Gates, no one’s idea of a warm and fuzzy liberal.

Okay. Here is the situation. Your Daughter is murdered. There are two witnesses. Both are Illegal. If they stay and give their statement and identify the Murderer, they get deported and the Murderer goes free. If they flee the scene to avoid getting deported, the Murderer goes free.

So enjoy your deport them all plan. It’s working by so well as more crime goes unsolved.

Try not to dodge and weave or evade. How are you going to get these people to come forward with needed information to stop violent crime and arrest killers, rapists, muggers and then get them to testify , if they are terrified that any contact with the local cops or DA will not only risk the immediate ruin their lives, but those of their extended family?
 
They are here illegally so they should be afraid.

Why are they terrified again?

If they were honorable people our society would be able to rely on them. Consequently, its their fault we can't due to them violating federal law thus wanting to hide from law enforcement.

If you can't figure out the local police and DA have higher priorities assigned to them by public than to check green card status, then you aren't smart enough to type here. I mean really? Do you want them checking to see who has unpaid parking tickets too? How about that speeding ticket two years ago. You want the cops to play meter maid? or do you want them to solve MURDERS, RAPES, Carjacks, ROBBERYS, ETC.

They cannot expect for any of these witnesses to crimes to come forward, to provide statements, or answer questions that will be needed to identify suspects in serious crimes and put them behind bars. That really is their job, the one the public pay them to do. We hire other people to enforce immigration laws.


My life and my family has never been negatively impacted by someone who does not have his papers. But I have had someone I love raped, someone elsessaulted bad enough for a week in the hospital, two people who had their cars stolen, one who lost 15, 000 to a white collar scam. I know what I need enforced and what I don't.
