Some firearms were mounted on the walls, fully accessible, while others were spread around the home, unsecured, the sheriff’s office said.
Outside the courtroom, his parents told KOMO the situation is a misunderstanding. His mother suggested his social media posts were an attempt to “be cool” among peers, and his father said he had no intention to harm anyone, KOMO reported.
Say that again..... Talk about a parenting fail, and a 'not my boy' complex. What in the holy hell.

The boy’s parents had not been arrested as of Tuesday morning, though police still need to conduct many interviews with the adults who were in the home, Cappetto said.
For real...

What doubt do the police/prosecutors have as to whether the parents had violated WA state’s ‘safe storage’ law?

You must always keep guns and ammunition out of reach of children. When at home, you must keep guns and ammunition in locked containers out of reach of children. You must store guns separate from the ammunition unless stored in a locked gun safe.

It's Parkland, that's pretty standard getting to school equipment.

I'm from Parkland originally.

Criminally idiotic parents. Take all the guns and get the boy into counseling to undo the parent's incompetence in raising him.
Parents need counseling too.

As much as we are concerned about the parents and the motivations of a 13-year old, is this not a reasonably good outcome?

Someone "ready to go" for a potential mass shooting was stopped, taken into custody with all the weapons confiscated. Don't know what happened to the kid, don't know the ideologies and conditions of the parents, but damn people... this is somewhat good news today. Lives were saved.

Edit, from the CNN article...

... damn!

Doesn't the law say those weapons and ammo should be locked in a gun safe. The parents need to be arrested immediately.

Washington State Legislature

RCWs > Title 9 > Chapter 9.41 > Section 9.41.360
(1) A person who stores or leaves a firearm in a location where the person knows, or reasonably should know, that a prohibited person may gain access to the firearm:
(a) Is guilty of community endangerment due to unsafe storage of a firearm in the first degree if a prohibited person obtains access and possession of the firearm and causes personal injury or death with the firearm; or
(b) Is guilty of community endangerment due to unsafe storage of a firearm in the second degree if a prohibited person obtains access and possession of the firearm and:
(i) Causes the firearm to discharge;
(ii) Carries, exhibits, or displays the firearm in a public place in a manner that either manifests an intent to intimidate another or that warrants alarm for the safety of other persons; or
(iii) Uses the firearm in the commission of a crime.
(2)(a) Community endangerment due to unsafe storage of a firearm in the first degree is a class C felony punishable according to chapter 9A.20 RCW.
(b) Community endangerment due to unsafe storage of a firearm in the second degree is a gross misdemeanor punishable according to chapter 9A.20 RCW.
(3) Subsection (1) of this section does not apply if:
(a) The firearm was in secure gun storage, or secured with a trigger lock or similar device that is designed to prevent the unauthorized use or discharge of the firearm;
(b) In the case of a person who is a prohibited person on the basis of the person's age, access to the firearm is with the lawful permission of the prohibited person's parent or guardian and supervised by an adult, or is in accordance with RCW 9.41.042;
(c) The prohibited person obtains, or obtains and discharges, the firearm in a lawful act of self-defense; or
(d) The prohibited person's access to the firearm was obtained as a result of an unlawful entry, provided that the unauthorized access or theft of the firearm is reported to a local law enforcement agency in the jurisdiction in which the unauthorized access or theft occurred within five days of the time the victim of the unlawful entry knew or reasonably should have known that the firearm had been taken.
(4) If a death or serious injury occurs as a result of an alleged violation of subsection (1)(a) of this section, the prosecuting attorney may decline to prosecute, even though technically sufficient evidence to prosecute exists, in situations where prosecution would serve no public purpose or would defeat the purpose of the law in question.
(5) For the purposes of this section, "prohibited person" means a person who is prohibited from possessing a firearm under state or federal law.
(6) Nothing in this section mandates how or where a firearm must be stored.
[ 2019 c 3 s 5 (Initiative Measure No. 1639, approved November 6, 2018).]

What a strange set of laws. No wonder gun deaths run rampant.

Who’s going to pay for this “counseling”?
Gun owners should be required to pay for such programs.

Yes, it is a violation of the 2A.

The 2A is outdated. When the 2A was written the nation did not have the problem with gun killings that we have today. The 2A needs to be updated. People should be allowed to have guns but that should be a privilege not a right. Gun ownership needs to be better regulated.

Anyone who denies that this world has gone to hell in a handbasket is blind/in denial/brain dead...

Can you name a time in history that didn’t have events similar to this?

Who is paying for the aftermath of massacres?

Nice dodge.

That’s interesting, but how would you tax gun owners?

The proposed ‘gun owner’ tax was your idea, not the government’s.
The government is not a person. The government cannot 'have ideas.' Ours is supposed to be a representative government in which the people provide input and elected representatives debate the merits and enact law. We no longer have that. Our government is bought and the 'representatives' answer to the greedy rich who bought them. The NRA owns enough of government to prevent meaningful legislation to effectively address gun violence.

I was asking for your input.

I was asking for your input.
I would favor changing the Constitution to allow greater regulation of who gets guns, and new laws that require gun owners to pay into a fund that helps reduce gun violence.

I think potential gun owners should be required to pass a psyche test.

All guns should be registered.

Records should be kept on who is buying guns and ammunition. It all needs to be regulated more stringently because America has a gun violence problem.

Imagine that - a Progressive wanting fewer individual rights and more government power, expense and control.

While we’re changing the Constitution, let’s add anyone deemed ineligible to possess a gun also loses their right to vote or hold any public office and loses their privilege to drive on public roadways.

Mocking is no substitute for intelligent debate.

Here's the thing.

The children of the most pro gun Americans aren't even safe.
