Platinum Jubilee of Elizabeth II

The Platinum Jubilee of Elizabeth II is expected to be celebrated in June 2022 in the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth[1] to mark the 70th anniversary of the accession of Queen Elizabeth II on 6 February 1952.[2] In the United Kingdom, an extra bank holiday will be created and the traditional May bank holiday weekend will be moved to the start of June, to create a special four-day Jubilee weekend.[3] The British government has promised a 'once-in-a-generation show' that will "mix the best of British ceremonial splendour and pageantry with cutting edge artistic and technological displays".[4] So long as Queen Elizabeth remains on the throne until 6 February 2022, this will be the first time any British monarch has celebrated a platinum jubilee.[5]

Carly Ledbetter, writing in the Huffington Post, suggested that the fact that planning for the Platinum Jubilee was underway meant that any rumours that Elizabeth was planning to step down when she reached the age of 95 in 2021, in favour of her son Charles, were false.

I hope we will all live to see it happen.

Here we can follow the preparations for this event.
And - hopefully - talk about this event once it happens.

Poor charlie, spent his whole life training for the one job he is eligible for and mummy refuses to let him do it.

I am really going to laugh if she does the same as philip and die a couple of months before the event.

Brits invited to plant a tree to celebrate Queen's 70-year reign in 2022

Brits around the UK have been invited to plant a tree in honour of the Queen's Platinum Jubilee in 2022.

The project, known as the Queen's Green Canopy, will see communities, charities, councils, cities, businesses and landowners unite to plant healthy native trees that will thrive.

Led together by Cool Earth, the government and The Woodland Trust, the planet-friendly initiative has been praised for being a "fitting way" to mark the first time a British sovereign has been on the throne for seven decades.

Silver Jubilee of Elizabeth II in 1977

The Silver Jubilee of Elizabeth II marked the 25th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II's accession to the thrones of the United Kingdom and other Commonwealth realms. It was celebrated with large-scale parties and parades throughout the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth throughout 1977, culminating in June with the official "Jubilee Days", held to coincide with the Queen's Official Birthday. The anniversary date itself was commemorated in church services across the land on 6 February 1977, and continued to be for the rest of that month. In March, preparations started for large parties in every major city of the United Kingdom, as well as for smaller ones for countless individual streets throughout the country.

Memories come back to me now:
It was in 1977 when in went by car (in my Renault 4 or R4 then) from Dover to Dundee, and from there on to the Isle auf Skye.
Partly on motorways, partly on country roads through towns and villages.
And I remember how many towns and villages were beautifully decorated because of the Silver Jubilee.
