So Toy Yorkie went in yesterday to get a growth on her paw looked at, and check up in general, being last visit tests indicated was into it. Along with pancreas issues(15 now).

Not good now. Saying 6 months?...😔

Still has pretty good days, besides appetite and what  She wants to eat. Mostly just lays in her blanket, but not lethargic. Still gets spunky at times.
Got some pet fish oil and probiotic to hopefully make her feel a tad better.

Don't know if I want to do any IV fluids or not. I may, not to prolong, but to hopefully ease any discomfort she may have. But doing so may prolong some discomfort she may be in......Double edged sword.

Dealt with it? How did you handle it?

Do whatever we can to ease, but time is time.

The hardest thing a pet owner has to do...say goodbye to their furry friend.

Done did it again last March for our Lab, yeah, ruff...(ha?)

It's tough. Can't be selfish, can't just.... give the best days you can.

I stay with them as they pass. I bawl my eyes out. Then a month or two later I fall in love with a new one...the only way to fill the void. My avatar dog is only 2 years old...I expect to have him a long time.

I feel for you and your Yorkie. We had a black Miniature Schnauzer female who had a few issues later in her 10 1/2 year life. We had her since she was just a little puppy. First, a fatty tumor in her front between her front legs that got removed. It wasn’t cancerous, but looking back, I’m not sure that didn’t eventually take her.

She would have an occasional seizure. Then, all of a sudden, she became very lethargic with no appetite. We took her to the weekend animal hospital on a Saturday afternoon where they couldn’t really tell what her issue was except her white cells were elevated. She stayed there until Monday morning when we were told she wasn’t really in better shape. She could barely move around the welcoming room, and I knew it was the end of the road. We weren’t going to prolong her misery.

A 35-lb energetic dog who lost all her energy in an instant. For the final time that afternoon, I took her into the backyard, her backyard, and she did something we had never seen her do before- she laid in the grass by one of the trees, her back to us and the house, and she took in the breeze, the scents, and the sights all around her for about 15 minutes. It was her way of saying farewell to her world. We went to the vet that evening and sent her over the rainbow bridge.

If you’re lucky, you’ll see the signs in a quick fashion so your pet won’t suffer too long. Until then, enjoy every minute of love she gives you. Now, if you’ll pardon me, I’ve got go dry my eyes…

Of course.

My moments will come. Wife is already there. Day by day Dear....

Cute pup with cute pattern. Some sort of Spanial?
King Charles Spaniel to some degree. I need to get a test done to see how much. His tongue is too big for his mouth so it sticks out most of the time. True to his breed he's worthless as a guard dog...loves everyone.

Sympathies to you... I'll know when it's time. Wife won't. Both lose it...

Really just wondering if we should IV or not? Making more comfortable, or just making things worse for the inevitable?

My vet told me a long time ago when I was dealing with a similar issue that if the pet is eating well and the tail is wagging more often than not, that is good thing. If pet is not eating well, tail is rarely wagging, pet seems more withdrawn/quiet, it's 'probably' best to come to terms with doing what is in the pet's best interests.

As hard as it was on us (we have lots of animals), we make the decisions on end of life for our 4 legged family members based on what is best for them. When they have lost a quality of life and life as they know it is more of a burden than blessing...we put them down.

The last puppy I had to have put to sleep was a Samoyed husky and was just the most unconditional loving creature I have ever known. I held her paw throughout the whole procedure and she looked at me and licked my hand...and I just know she was saying thank you, I love you, and goodbye one last time. Her last activity on earth was to help me through my grief.

Fricken dogs...amiright?

I dont know what I will do if I ever have to put my current dogs down.

There's nothing comfortable about going on an IV. Pets tend not to understand it.

Still a blessing. The sparkle isn't gone. But good at hiding.....?

Did not deal with that but my Wife brought home a kitten that I was very angry about one day. The next day he was sleeping against my arm and has since been my constant shadow. When he was about 8 months old he got very sick and we took him to the hospital where he was diagnosed with a twisted large intestine and required emergency surgery to remove a length of his intestine. It was several thousand dollars which if you asked me a year prior if I would do that I would have said you were crazy.
That was three years ago and now I give him a shot once a month of B12 and daily vitamins hat he misses due to the shortened digestive tract. Every day I take him for a walk around the neighborhood (not the sidewalks but through yards). He prefers to do his toilet business outside, where I have set up an outdoor litterbox, but in a pinch (pardon the pun) he begrudgingly uses the indoor box. He is taking a nap right next to me now on his favorite chair in the man cave, as I type.

SO I guess you have to do whatever it is you have to do. These decisions are hard, but you have to take into account the quality of life your pet has going forward, in making it.

Ah, bud... :( you know the moment you bring them home that they're going to break your heart.

There is no way this isn't going to gut you, which you know, and that's going to happen whether it's today or 6 months from now, and not just over the pup but also watching your wife's grief.

But you seem to have a good handle on the reality of it. The only thing you'd regret is prolonging the suffering, so make sure you don't. That dog has had a good life, the proof being that you're the kind of dog owner that would suffer this the way you are. That speaks to a lot of love, and that's all they really ever want.

I'll be thinking about you, bud. I hope it's as "easy" as possible for all of you.

Wishing the best for you and your girl. Been through similar illnesses, never easy for our furkids or us.....hugs.

Not really much you can do. Our cat had renal failure and one symptom was that her eyes got very crusty and almost clouded over. We cleaned her eyes and kept her as comfortable as we could. When she was put down I bawled my eyes out and had to leave the room. She was my cat for many of my single years, prior to meeting my hubby.

It is so hard saying goodbye to them. Wishing you the best during her remaining time.

Yeah I had a cat suddenly get renal failure. The vet gently explained things weren't going to get better for him so I made the right decision.

Prior to that I did IV fluids twice a week for about a year. It's easy once you get the knack of it.

BTW my cat only gives me the tongue when he's just waking up.
