One hopes that if it's the White House which decided, or was substantially involved in deciding, something as specific as which car dealerships would close, the vast majority of both Republicans and Democrats would have a problem with it.

The White House and auto companies both say that the WH was uninvolved, and I don't see what reason the WH could possibly have for getting involved, so I'm inclined to believe them. What does Biden care which particular auto dealerships stay open?

I find it plausible that the feds had some hand in the decision to close dealerships, and possibly the number of dealerships that were to close, but deciding which ones in particular close seems like a whole lot of work that is completely irrelevent to the federal government

Well, the guy who was overseeing GM has resigned and the company he helped found is under investigation for fraud or something.
Could be part of it.

Here is the article, the guy was defined as the chief architect of the auto bail out and he was the auto czar.

The company he helped found is under investigation by the NY ag's office.
