Pam Bondi, the US attorney general, has revoked a Biden administration-era policy that restricted subpoenas of reporters’ phone records in criminal investigations. ...The memo says federal employees who leak sensitive information to the media “for the purposes of personal enrichment and undermining our foreign policy, national security, and government effectiveness” are engaging in conduct that could be characterized as “treasonous”.

“This conduct is illegal and wrong, and it must stop,” the memo states. The justice department “will not tolerate disclosures that undermine President Trump’s policies, victimize government agencies, and cause harm to the American people”.

Bondi’s memo comes as Donald Trump, who has frequently branded journalists “the enemy of the people”, has escalated his attacks on the US media landscape since returning to the White House in January.

Going after judges and journalists, with words like "treasonous" and "enemy of the people" and characterizing the Trump administration as the American people - a typical authoritarian strategies.

I've come to the conclusion that a large portion of our society is perfectly fine with a dictatorship as long as the dictator is Donald Trump. Never in my life have I seen so many people suck up to a 5th grade bully. 🤷‍♀️

As long as the economy is OK.

Journalists who write articles that criticize Trump will be arrested.

Why are not the masses scared shitless about this?
It's possible that most are simply in denial. People are so complacent, they just don't believe it can happen here. Coupled with RW medias denying and downplaying the possibility and the current state of Trump's government.

If you listen to Faux News, everything is rosy and going according to plan.

Per your quote, it says it was a "Biden administration-era policy," implying it was not a thing before the Biden admin. Does that mean the pre-Biden admins were also in the wrong? You know that would include Obama, right? More importantly, where was the liberal meltdown over it during the Obama years?

Yay!!!!!!!!

The future serveilance state is almost upon us and the government can finally arrest reporters for doing stories that Trump doesn't like!

At last, sanity prevails!

Did they use those words?

Simple answer: When "the masses" see judges working to violate immigration laws by blatantly assisting illegal aliens to break those laws, then they know such judges should be arrested and punished for violating laws they are supposed to support.

I just wonder in a different universe what it would look like for, I don't know, a million people storming the White House. I bet that would change Trump's attitude. Just asking for a friend !!!!

Trump wants courthouses, where serious felony trials take place to submit itself to its war on those who have committed misdemeanors people they may need to testify won't come in. Its absurd.

Maybe the White House could use a bigger wall around it.
And Trump could use taxpayer money to build it.
You've seen "Olympus Has Fallen", right?
A president can't be too careful.

Article III, Sec. 3
"Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort."

Undermine President Trump’s policies is not treason. It may even be civic virtue.

One of the many problems with this memo is that subpoenas are not issued by the Justice Department. They're issued by judges and I see many judges saying that they will not issue a subpoena for confidential notes of journalists.

Another problem is that this administration has a problem with leaking of embarrassing new, like Hegseth's Signal communications. Instead of rectifying the problems with Hegseth, they train their guns on the reporters for reporting their failings. Pure authoritarian tactic.

May I propose that she has been convicted of nothing. She wasn't even indicted by a grand jury. Just some magistrate signing a warrant (wonder who he supports). If they were so sure of these charges, why not use a GJ? Awful suspicious to me.

This is an obvious signal to the entire judiciary that if you rule against Trump, bad shit will happen to you. It's an authoritarian as it gets. Orban did this in Hungary with much success. In fact, nearly every step Trump is taking to tear down our government is a repeat of how Orban took over Hungary. Orban has been coaching Trump and the Project 2025 team all the way through.

MAGAs must look forward to loosing most of their hard-fought rights.

You're right. People who are here illegally are afraid to testify against illegal aliens who are ready to be deported.
I don't blame them.

No, I haven't. It was just one those crazy thoughts that popped into my head. The good news for America is that Trump couldn't organize anything fast enough to protect the WH. At this point, when you consider the chaos at the Pentagon, I doubt the military would do much to help.

Hegseth would take the first few hours to do some push-ups and put on his makeup before he could even mobilize.

You're right. That nutty judge in Wisconsin who facilitated the escape of an illegal alien needs due process.
She will get it. She will become the poster girl for those elected or appointed officials who ignore federal immigration laws.

FBI arrests Wisconsin judge, alleging she obstructed arrest of illegal alien

The judge is accused of hiding the immigrant in her jury room while ICE tried to arrest him

I think the military would probably notice if there were a million people wanting to attack the White House.
