I have read that the Taliban/hard line Islamist factions were given control of some parts of Northwestern Pakistan. I guess it's sort of an appeasement effort. Things have really gone downhill there since Musharraff left.

I still wonder how they got their constant fighting with Islamist forces under control enough to safely develop nuclear weapons.
