Ukraine has the upper hand. Russia's economy is growing more brittle by the day, inflation is rampant, and the US president is now on record as officially threatening to bomb Moscow if they take any more of Ukraine. Putin needs a face-saving way out of this. If Zelenskyy provides one, Putin just might take him up on it. Putin can't afford for the war to go on for much longer. Time is on Ukraine's side now that aid is flowing in, and the US and NATO, and by extension Ukraine, can hold out far longer than Russia can.

But "Operation Spider Web II" is certainly possible in addition to peace talks. A military strike deep inside Russia could add urgency for Putin to end the war as quickly as possible.

It's all about theatrics when it comes to Zelensky. His Decree banning all negotiations with Putin is still in the books. The message of the Decree was that Ukraine will only negotiate with Russia following regime change in Moscow.

My advice to the parties in the west working on negotiations is to keep Zelensky out of it. His presence can only guarantee one thing: prolongation of the conflict. Just take one look at the damage he did to Ukraine at his Oval Office visit. And this was a visit by Zelensky to a allied power he cannot do without.
