Ottawa's core locked down as police prepare to move on protesters

Or even better - take a vacation with Doug Ford. His brother was the crackhead Mayor of Toronto and Doug is best remembered for his high-school drug dealing.
Early on, some posters were quite convinced about the very firm way they thought Ford would handle the situation. I wonder if they feel let down their expectations weren't met.

You realize this is very much how many on the Left feel about this new GOP-Trumpism. right?

I've posted a poll on the use of the Emergency Measures Act here. I'd like everyone's opinion on this if you want to go and vote.

I was riding my bike today, and stopped for the light on one of the busiest intersections in Scottsdale. A woman was holding a sign that said "Honk if you love Jesus & Freedom", along with a drawing of 2 semi trucks and a Canadian flag.

No one honked at all in 5 minutes, I pointed that out to her, and laughed my ass off.

There are similarities between Ottawa today and Washington DC in June 2020 when the Park police cleared an illegal protest in front of the Whitehouse, only the Police in Ottawa are using minimum force and there is a lot less violence.
In Washington, DC the US military was also used by Trump, illegally. Some of the equipment used belonged to the military. Also: the protesters were not breaking the law in Washington, DC. Also: the protesters were cleared only so that Trump could have a photo op for his own self-aggrandizement, not for the public good.

Except for those three differences, the incidents were exactly the same.

This is inaccurate, to say the least. Guns were never drawn by police, never pointed at protesters at any point.
Hmmm, must be a bunch of "fake" pictures being posted in recent comments then.

It's amazing how some on the right love an illegal occupation when it's white extremists.
You're referring to trespassing and equating that with dictators like Biden and Trudeau?

WHY does everything on the left now always shoehorn in "WHITE" as if whites need to be demonized nowadays? Please explain this to me.

The challenge Ford (and other politicians have) is that police in Canada are very independent. They are overseen by independent boards and politicians can't order them around. Generally speaking people are pretty disappointed in Ford. Everyone thought he handled the pandemic well at the beginning but has been a bit flip-floppy as its dragged on. @JANFU has some strong opinions on it!

Getting back to the protests I think that the problem with handling it isn't political. The police underestimated the size of the protest or its staying power and intelligence was either lacking or poorly communicated. In addition there were problems with the Ottawa Police oversight board and a weak initial response to the protest, likely a result of poor leadership by the former police chief.

So here's my question. I'm not familiar with the Canadian process but when Trudeau invoked the EA the reporting was along the lines of this:

The Canadian Parliament must approve the use of the emergency measures within seven days, and the left-leaning New Democrat party said it would support Trudeau's Liberal minority government to pass the measures.

So when did the approval take place?

I saw that photo after my post so stand corrected. I do think the NYT is being a bit hyperbolic.
I hadn't seen this post yet, when I posted #1431. Good for you - being okay with admitting you were wrong and being corrected.

The debate was today in The House. The vote is Monday and it's sure to pass The House. The Senate then votes on it, likely Tuesday. That will also pass and once the GG signs it (Tuesday or Wednesday) it's considered passed.

Now, just imagine having to live next-door to these clowns, as your neighbors?

This is why we're all doing a 'self-sort', of sorts.

Where I live we have strong mitigation mandates, and our Mayor & Governor have been using our universities (several are world-class) as their resources and guidance, especially when they eschewed the Trump administration during his term.

In my immediate area, there is very high mitigation compliance. I like it that way.

People have gotten the government they deserve. The citizens must rise up to tyranny and when they don't, despots like Trudeau and Biden just become more emboldened.

Controlled people become like docile sheep.

It hasn't taken place yet.

The police operation to remove protesters in Ottawa began about 20 minutes ago. The police seem to be arresting people on foot to start with. I'm sure Ottawa residents, sick of the disruption and noise will be cheering this on.

When did ottowa become a police state? You're not allowed to protest in Canada?

This is interesting news and I'm hoping some Canadians will express how they feel about this. The ability of the government to freeze one's assets was the most disturbing part of the EA to several posters. Some or maybe just one poster thought only accounts of 2-3 leaders would experience this penalty.
Now we have this info posted. How do the Canadian posters feel about this news?

Every day there's protests, including at Parliament. You can't close bridges or roads. Same as in the US.
