Its kind of annoying that the article didn't like to ipsos, so here it is

Hopefully this signals far less popular support than the amount of talk online would suggest

Oh...that poll again. We already have a thread about it and I've already rejected it as a bogus poll

good for you. Now for the rest of the forum, we will discuss it.

It has already been discussed.

You should do the right thing and ask the mods to merge threads.

There is no reason to, this is a different aspect of the poll and bears its own discussion.

The word that I'd choose from your Newsweek link would be "disgraceful." I don't know anybody personally, progressive or conservative, who isn't appalled. (Then there are the "Huh--wut?" people who aren't really paying much attention.) Earlier this week, I posted links from NRO (National Review Online) articles with multiple condemnatory articles.

Talk online (as opposed to our ordinary real lives) is far more polarized, I think. When my progressive little sister texted me how horrified she was, I texted right back that I was (and am) horrified too. I haven't posted my opinion here because I think those who are unthinkingly "tribal" don't have the slightest interest in what I have to say--they've already made up their minds, slotted me into some hateful/stupid/treasonous category of those guilty of wrongthink who need and deserve to be punished.

LOL. In that thread you compared how many Americans want Trump removed (Reuters), to how many Americans are R vs. D (Gallup). Apples and oranges much?

Well, you do know that we're no better than 17th in the world in EDUCATION right Taco?

I agree and that's what the point of posting this was. DP is a bit of a bubble and things can be a bit more dramatic here than in the real world. I am hoping this article provides that bit of context for people.

You do know that that majority of Americans don't even know what kind of Gov their own country has right?

I actually disagree. The terms democracy, republic, and democratic republic all work equally well in my opinion

Except when you open a dictionary for the definition of REPUBLIC, you don't find DEMOCRACY anywhere?

Every rioter who breaks the law is a criminal. Glad you're waking up!!!
We've been saying this since the George Floyd riots began in March, with dozens dead, cities and towns burned, police mowed down by cars, police having commercial fireworks thrown at them $2 Billion in damages, Americans terrorized by THUGS in the streets.

Welcome to reality!!

My instincts say that the polls accurately reflect the opinions of the vast majority of Americans and certainly the world. While I continued to be shocked at the numbers of people who support Trump, I am convinced it is only a very small number, comparatively, that would ever support this type of action, especially while a joint session to validate the election of a President was in session.

Every single Federal political leader was in that building except Trump, the results could have been disastrous beyond measure. Unfortunately, that small number is a very dangerous and deranged group who must somehow be defeated not enabled. All Americans must come together to denounce this behaviour. Political discourse is AOK....this is not.

In normal times I spend 25% or more of my year living in Florida. I know Americans, I know these mobsters are not reflective of the vast majority but they will, in fact, reflect poorly upon you if everyone does not speak with one voice about this defiling of democracy.

Yes, we all condemn what happened at the Capital and believe violence is never the answer. The very small number of people who broke the law compared to the VAST majority of peaceful protesters were disgraceful and should be found and punished.
Yet, the Left wants us ALL punished if we do not repent and reform.

I know Americans,

Just how well do you know them?

Well enough to know that this group is not representative of them. Have you got boat loads of stupid and crazy? Sure you do, we do too. This is beyond stupid or crazy.

LOL. In that thread you compared how many Americans want Trump removed (Reuters), to how many Americans are R vs. D (Gallup). Apples and oranges much?
I did no such thing.

We'll just put you down for No Democracy in the definition of REPUBLIC(LOL)
How to you propose people get elected without using democracy?

You sure?

Next time you see them, ask um what kind of Gov the U.S. has?

How do you suppose that the word DEMOCRACY isn't anywhere in the definition of our REPUBLIC?

Now, to the average American Joe, we're a democracy(Hello)

The word elected explicitly implies democracy. Unless you can tell me how people get elected without using democracy or voting?

We are in a democracy in the US
