"State Schools Superintendent Ryan Walters threatened to hold "rogue" public school districts accountable if they didn't incorporate the Bible as part of their curriculum. Walters made the statement during his opening comments at Wednesday's state Board of Education meeting in Oklahoma City.

...The other schools, at least a dozen of the state’s largest districts – Norman, Moore, Stillwater, Bixby, Deer Creek, Piedmont, Yukon, Jenks, Broken Arrow, Collinsville, Owasso and Tulsa – have publicly said they have no intention of altering their curriculum to incorporate Walters’ directive.
Edmond school officials have made no public announcement about the Bible mandate. Still, Walters doubled down, threatening those districts that didn't embrace the mandate. Walters, however, stopped short of saying what, exactly, would happen to those districts that didn't comply.

..."We will not allow it here in the state of Oklahoma," he said. Walters said districts that didn't include the Bible in their curriculum were indoctrinating kids. Without providing examples, he said those same districts "want pornography in front of kids under the name of inclusivity but don't want the historical context of the Bible."...“Adherence to this mandate is compulsory,” Walters said in a letter announcing the directive. “Further instructions for monitoring and reporting on this implementation for the 2024/25 school year will be forthcoming. Immediate and strict compliance is expected.”

Norman Public Schools Superintendent Nick Migliorino was direct in an interview with the Norman Transcript: “I’m just going to cut to the chase on that. Norman Public Schools is not going to have Bibles in our classrooms, and we are not going to require our teachers to teach from the Bible. The standards are clear and our curriculum is very clear. And we’re not going to deviate from that.” The Center for Education Law also has issued a memorandum to Oklahoma school districts calling Walters’ mandate invalid under state law."

The Bible should only be relevant in religious education classes.
The same would be true for geography books only being relevant in geography class.

Religious education is not a required lesson in schools.

Ryan Walters needs to sit in a cell. He also needs to be fired and banned from all public office.

Kevin Stitt needs the same.

Bible in a comparative religions course? Absolutely.

Mentioned as for its importance in certain historical actions / events. Sure.

Forced to be integrated in curriculum it doesn’t belong in and in absence of other religious texts… nope.

I doubt he’ll push this further as he’d lose in court. Until it goes to court, he’s winning as he’s sort of forcing some districts (or giving them an excuse) to put the Bible in curriculum.

And Christians should be the first ones against this type of thing.

If I was a teacher in Oklahoma, every single day I would teach the kids in my class Ezekiel 23:20 regardless of their age.

I use that verse when the discussion of pornography materials in the library comes up.

Sometimes I’ll bring it up slightly changed to ask it someone thinks that should be allowed. Then I tell them where it’s from.

They are jerking teachers around with the teaching certificates based on their politics and FB posts. Also not allowing state lawmakers into the executive sessions although the law grants them the power to attend the meetings. Nothing like closed doors for transparency.

I would be 100% for the removal of State involvement in schooling. But it seems people want this only when it goes the way they want it to.

That's not how it works if the people will vote for a school board or a superintendent that focuses on inserting the Bible into the curriculum then that's how democracy works if you don't like democracy that's fine I'm not a fan of it either but everyone talks about how great it is and now we need to preserve it until it does something you don't like.

Also turn the other cheek is often misinterpreted it is a form of mockery letting someone know their attack on you means very little it's not about letting people just do whatever they want

The money for those schools comes from the people and is administered by the state.

No, then that superintendent needs to be removed from office in disgrace and needs to lose all professional licensure and they people need to be held absolutely accountable by loss of federal funding for a period of time.

It's supposed to be a lesson in forgiveness; however, that point is often missed.

By state do you mean the state of Oklahoma or would you remove local civil elected school boards?

District school boards refusing to teach the Bible are elected too.

It should be distributed based on merit not location

it's an elected position so you're anti democracy unless you get your way (fascist)

It's supposed to be a lesson in forgiveness; however, that point is often missed.
No it's not. What it means as if someone hits you offer the other cheek to show that resolute and the barbs will not break you. Colloquially it means something else but biblically it's what I said.

If you were a teacher and that wouldn't be your call and you'd quickly get fired

So now Oklahoma is going to tell teachers what parts of the Bible they can’t teach? They are going to infringe on free exercise of religion?

Religious schools do not merit public money.

No, I am anti-ignoramus
