As always we are being lied to all the time.
Also about oil.

Oil isn't finite at all, So we can never run out of oil. Remember a few years ago, peakoil, well that couldn't happen at all!.


That is a good sign, isn't it?

We're on a planet with only a certain amount of stuff on it so unless oil is going to start raining down on us from space it's finite.

I don't know how much is left but it's less than the total weight of the planet I'm pretty certain.
 
To be fair he is correct

Oil is not a finite good. It is being created on a constant basis, it just take a long long time. The time it takes to create oil from dead bio mass is far longer than a human life time.

He's conflating things. What he's trying to say is that a resource that only exists in finite amounts at a time can be used as if infinite, provided certain conditions hold for an infinite amount of time. Specifically, that the supply of oil is infinite so long as we assume that production occurs over an infinite amount of time, and for that infinity of time the rate of consumption is equal to or less than rate of production.

But that is a very different statement than something as naked as "Oil isn't finite at all." (It's also obvious to the point of meaninglessness). At any given time, oil is very much finite.

There won't be any longer than 5-10 billion years from nowmax.

There is plenty of oil in various forms in the ground for the next 1,000 years at least.

Shortly, this decade we will be mining asteroids in orbit. This will provide the greatest single jump in human wealth ever. Bigger than the industrial revolution. There is at least a million years of all resources out there in the solar system.

Maybe so, but the thing is that oil is always made new.
 
Oil isn't finite? Even my biting sarcasm is finite. However, I still have plenty. i run through it like a 1977 Lincoln 460 towing a boat. That was a great car.
