Maybe now Mike DeWine, Dave Yost, and the Ohio GOP will leave medical care decisions in the hands of patients and providers, where they belong.

In all fairness, IIRC Mike Dewine had vetoed this bill. Which was then overridden by Ohios Trumptard GQP legislature.

Good news. (On a personal level, now I don't have to worry about our out-of-state transgender grandkids, who are due to travel to the Buckeye state in the near future.)

DeWine did veto the bill, but the GOPer assholes overrode it:

...Republican lawmakers passed House Bill 68 last year as the "Ohio Saving Adolescents from Experimentation Act," to block gender-transition treatments for minors and to ban trans athletes from participating in K-12 and collegiate girls and women's sports.

It was vetoed by Gov. Mike DeWine, who said going forward with gender-affirming treatments are "gut-wrenching decisions that should be made by parents" and informed by doctors and medical professionals. Republican lawmakers overrode his veto, with one saying that "there is no such thing as gender-affirming care."...

I'm glad the OHIO Government didn't succeed in taking children or women's medial care away this year!!

When "childrens medical care" involves unnecessary castration, there are questions that probably should be asked IMO. Personally in this matter I am fine with deferring to a body like the AMA and not go with what politicians say.

I believe you have to be 18 for sex realignment surgery. Regardless, I assume all those questions were presented.

The AMA, pediatricians, psychologists and psychiatrists supports gender affirming care for teens and adults.

The chemical and then surgical castration is a very welcome part of transgender care if someone chooses to transition. They cannot effectively transition to the body that aligns with their gender identity without stopping/blocking/removing the hormones that their body naturally creates.

Ahem

What if I identify as a double amputee?

Should a doctor lop my arms off for me if thats what I want?

How do you identify as a double amputee? Would that be a male or female double amputee?

I'd see a psychologist for a diagnosis and then they can help you work on a treatment plan.

This isn't - or, at least, at some time in the past, wasn't - so far out as some might think.

I've read about this, although it's been a number of years, possibly pre-pandemic.

They might, but you could definitely get your kids a nose job, and or a boob job so they fit in at school with little trouble. Plastic surgery is common among teens in our country, people don't even bat an eye.

They bat an eye at this because they've been told to dislike queers. It's political.

OK*

We’re debating whether surgically or chemically castrating confused teens is a good idea.

The world gets dumber by the day.

I'm not so sure that nobody batted an eye as you say.

Anyone that allows their minor child to get a boob job and plastic surgery should be relieved of their children and imprisoned IMHO. Now of course a necessity is a different story such as to fix a deformity or disfigurement etc.

Uh huh. I remember being told that. I was told to dislike queers, and so I did. I do as I'm told.

"Confused" is your layman's opinion.

Counseling and social transitioning are among the steps transgenders take prior to surgery.

This treatment protocol is what has been proved the most effective for both transgender adults and teens for the past 50+ years. Denying effective transgender care has deadly effects, even when they do survive suicide attempts because of the depression and dysphoria.

Where did you get your medical or psych graduate degree? Dazzle me with your brilliance if you know so much more.

You weren't and I know that, but "you" know MAGAs are. You're not that foolish. If you want to jump on this train, you're now taking the ride.

We've had this talk before, and while I admire that you think all plastic surgery should be kept in the adult atmosphere, something I might agree on, fighting along side of the prejudice discriminating Christian Right on this issue isn't going to save you from judgement.

Start a thread on plastic surgery and youth, from a health perspective. This isn't that thread. This is a political agenda against transgenders. This isn't the only law purposed by Christian cons against this community, and it won't be the last.

Heres how utterly despicable the Ohio GOP is (well most of them). When i called the guy sponsoring the ectopic pregnancy bill and told him several OBGYN professionals are saying this is not only impossible but deadly, the ****head little snake said hes got professionals that say its possible, guess who he pointed me to?

Some guy who tried to but failed 100 years ago! These people are utter demons.

Good Gawd!! That's horrid!! My brain curdles thinking about these dudes in charge of my health.

Like im far from a professional when it comes to female reproductive systems, i dont have any experience with them. Ya know what i dont do? I dont use my ignorance to immiserate the lives of women like the guy i spoke to wants to do. That displays not only a severe lack of maturity but also an almost demonic lack of empathy.
