Hell yes! :applaud This is definaltey a step in the right direction. Its clear that the people of this country what these kind of practices ended. Its definaltey a start, but its not perfect. I expect most people accept this as a definate step in the right direction.

He could put a halt to it, with a phone call. You people still haven't figured that out!...lol!!!

So if we have another 911 where we are taken by surprise will the same people that don't want this complain there wasn't enough done?

I don't think you realize how much power and control our intelligence agencies have. They've told our president's more than once to go pound sand.

You do realize that the NSA works directly for The President...right? All he has to do, is pick up the phone, give the director instructions and if the director tells him to, "pound sand", Obama fires his ass.

If we had a real leader, he would exert his power appropriately, but...

More transparent pandering in an attempt to keep the senate. Why do you think it took him 5 years to posture as he now is?

What's funny--or sad--is that if he actually puts a stop the NSA surveillance, all the Obama disciples will tell us how great he is for putting a stop to the NSA surveillance; all in the face of adversity, of course.

Now is this a keep your doctor kind of call or a close gitmo kind of call....oh wait maybe it's the Libyan consulate call?

I think it's more of a, "red line", kinda call.

These guys have zero credibility.

What agency or director has ever told a sitting U.S. President to "go pound sand"?

Oh, you know!...that one, a few years back...you remember.

He absolutely could since he's Commander in Chief and the N.S.A. falls under DOD authority. Even if the N.S.A. didn't fall under DOD control, the President is the highest executive power in the United States.

Obama is too concerned with issuing orders that are outside his realm of authority.

Take a fair criticism about Obama being able to pretty much do this himself already and go full retard with it...

More partisan ODS by the usual in this thread.

Well, as a privacy-minded conservative, I applaud the president for at least addressing it.

And I utterly despise what this thread tells me about my fellow conservatives.

IF OBAMA BYPASSES CONGRESS TO END THIS PRACTICE HOW IS THAT NOT THE ACT OF A SO-CALLED TYRANT YOU GUYS ALWAYS RANT ABOUT?

If he believes its wrong, he should put his money where his mouth is. If he wants to go through congress, whats keeping him? Why is he doing this half decade into his presidency?

Thanks Ed S.

Addressing it and ending this program would be the right thing to do. However, that is not enough. Something should be put into place preventing this type of surveillance again. If not, what is stopping him from ending this program and then immediately starting a different program with the same goals and agendas?
