Appealing for a new citizen activism in the free world, President Barack Obama renewed his call Wednesday to reduce U.S. and Russian nuclear stockpiles and to confront climate change, a danger he called "the global threat of our time."
In a wide-ranging speech that enumerated a litany of challenges facing the world, Obama said he wanted to reignite the spirit that Berlin displayed when it fought to reunite itself during the Cold War.
"Today's threats are not as stark as they were half a century ago, but the struggle for freedom and security and human dignity, that struggle goes on," Obama said at the city's historic Brandenburg Gate under a bright, hot sun. "And I come here to this city of hope because the test of our time demands the same fighting spirit that defined Berlin a half-century ago."
The president called for a one-third reduction of U.S. and Russian nuclear stockpiles, saying it is possible to ensure American security and a strong deterrent while also limiting nuclear weapons
Germany's foreign minister, Guido Westerwelle, is a strong advocate of nuclear disarmament and has long called for the removal of the last U.S. nuclear weapons from German territory, a legacy of the Cold War. The Buechel Air Base in western Germany is one of a few remaining sites in Europe where they are based.
Under an agreement drawn up when they formed a coalition government in 2009, German Chancellor Angela Merkel's conservatives and Westerwelle's Free Democratic Party agreed to press NATO and Washington for the nuclear weapons to be withdrawn, but did not set any timeframe.
Nuclear stockpile numbers are closely guarded secrets in most nations that possess them, but private nuclear policy experts say no countries other than the U.S. and Russia are thought to have more than 300. The Federation of American Scientists estimates that France has about 300, China about 240, Britain about 225, and Israel, India and Pakistan roughly 100 each.....snip~
Obama renews calls for nuclear reductions

Stupid **** is all over the damn place. Why doesn't he fix the broke economy and establish an environment for job creation first? There is no immediate need to reduce stockpiles right now, it's a diversion. And more bull**** about climate change. An Oval Office change would do us more good.
Why post a new thread and an OP that has no opinion of your own. Most forums have rules against doing that for good reason. At least letting people know what you think are Obama's motives would give others a chance to debate the issue.
At least you are able to come up with some irrational comments on why Obama shouldn't have done it. That at least serves to illustrate that hating Obama is all that's on your plate at the moment. It really does give it away!

Then can we have some good reasons to do it? Obama continually weakens our defenses.

Barack Obama returned to Berlin today, almost five years to the day from when he delivered his famous "Victory Column" speech that cemented his reputation as an international rockstar. Unfortunately, his reception this time was a lot different.
An estimated 200,000 people turned out in July 2008 to see then Candidate Obama deliver an address in front of one of Germany's most notable landmarks.
Fast forward to 2013, and many are now saying that Obama's reputation is "tarnished," by his recent snooping scandals, his extensions of the war on terror, and the hard luck realities of failing to deliver on all your promises. He's "demystified" and "no longer a superstar" in German eyes. Now he's just another world leader on a state visit, and whatever problems people have with U.S. policy are on his shoulders.
And instead of opening up the speech to the whole city, Obama spoke in front only about 5,000-6,000 spectators, all of them invited guests.
Then can we have some good reasons to do it? Obama continually weakens our defenses.
Defense? How many nuclear warheads do we need?

Why is it important when the economy is on life support and the only thing keep it afloat is massive Fed Printing ?
Turns out, Americans aren't the only ones who think he's full of sh**.
More than everybody else and enough to destroy the earth.....we may have visitors to the planet.
More than one
Well since this reduction of nuclear weapons leaves us with much more than that, there should be no objection then.
There is no limit to the amount we need. You apparently didn't get my humor.

Every word is a shovel full that gets you a little deeper.
We have that prolly about 10 times over. So what's the problem with reduction again?
