No one is trying to sell the benefits of the nanny state, the liberals are only trying to defend the status quo, which takes a very active imagination to call a nanny state. As for such enterprises failing throughout the world, 6 of the 10 best economies, in terms of GDP per capita, are so-called nanny states, and 9 of 10 have far richer safety nets than that of the US. You can say you don't like those systems, but you cannot say they do not work.

What has seemingly failed is the US system, which has failed to fairly distribute its riches to its population, but rather concentrates its wealth we a very, very few. A trend which is leading the US to a 2nd world country (name a 1st world economy without a middle class)
As for debt, hard to pin that on the democrats given that debt to GDP has gone up with each Republican administration and down with the democrats. You, who pride yourself in operating from facts, stand stark naked on this post.
Our system wasn't created for the redistribution of wealth but instead the freedom to be the best you can be. Social programs should be at the state and local level, not the Federal level, not with 310 million people over 50 states. Comparing this country to Europe or any other Continent is a mistake and one that is comparing apples and oranges. We didn't become the land of opportunity by an over reaching Federal Govt. that other nations have with much less geography and population. Most of the debt created over the past few decades came from programs like the New Deal and Great Society where trillions have been spent and have generated most of the debt showing that you cannot social engineer at the Federal Level.
Really? Taxing the rich is called socialism? Please explain that to me. And don't the working poor and the middle class work their asses off as well? Let me answer that: Yep. American workers are consistently considered the hardest workers on the planet when you compare the amount of hours worked and the amount of time off we get.

G.E. paid no taxes on $5.2 billion in profit. On top of the insult and the mocking laughter, they actually received a $3.2 billion dollar refund. In the mean time, one of my 2nd Lieutenant's paid $48 on his taxes this year. So I guess between killing teacher salaries and raping out the military, our decrepit government full of dip****s will handle this deficit once and for all.
