A new report issued by the Inspector General (IG) for the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) reveals the Obama administration has spent over $23 million for activities in Kenya to influence voters there to support a new constitution that would allow virtually unlimited abortions.
The nation currently protects women and unborn children from abortions, but a constitution voters will consider on August 4 would change the historic pro-life laws of the African nation.
This article is from July 19th, 2010.
this whole thing was stupid then, and it's stupid now.
You find it irrelevant?
(1) Every person has the right to life.
(2) The life of a person begins at conception.
(3) A person shall not be deprived of life intentionally, except to the extent authorized by this Constitution or other written law.
(4) Abortion is not permitted unless, in the opinion of a trained health professional, there is a need for emergency treatment, or the life or health of the mother is in danger, or if permitted by any other written law.
The issue for some including myself is not the pro life angle, it's the fact that tax payer money is being used to essentially lobby for legislative changes in foreign countries that have absolutely no impact in said tax payers everyday lives.Peter Grimm being dishonest? Shocking I tell you. Shocking. The Obama administration supported a new Kenyan constitution. What the new constitution actually changed were the authoritarian powers of the Kenyan president and created checks and balances to make the country's system far more democratic. This is what section 170 of the new constitution actually says (I remind you that it is identical to the previous Kenyan constitution):
Now to anybody more than two working braincells, that would make the Kenyan constitution far more restrictive than US abortion laws. Don't let the facts stop you though Mr Grimm. In essence what the anti-choice fringe have done is turned an issue about democracy, into an issue about their ridiculous religious beliefs. Why am I not surprised that the American right is doing this?
If true, it's ridiculous that tax payer money is being used to influence legislative changes in foreign affairs.
Peter Grimm being dishonest? Shocking I tell you. Shocking. The Obama administration supported a new Kenyan constitution. What the new constitution actually changed were the authoritarian powers of the Kenyan president and created checks and balances to make the country's system far more democratic. This is what section 26* of the new constitution actually says (I remind you that it is identical to the previous Kenyan constitution):
Now to anybody more than two working braincells, that would make the Kenyan constitution far more restrictive than US abortion laws. Why? Because it defines where life begins and implies that the woman and fetus account for two persons. That's not enough for the right wing fringe because well, as we all know, they wont stop until we're all attending mass and paying tithes again. What the anti-choice fringe have done is turned an issue about democracy, into an issue about their ridiculous religious beliefs. Why am I not surprised that the American right is doing this? What's more surprising is that Obama actually supported far more restrictive abortion laws and yet they're still unhappy because 1) they have no idea what the new constitution was about and 2) they have no wish to understand what it was about.
Don't let the facts stop you though Mr Grimm.

Nice spin.
We still paid $23 million dollars to influence the Kenyan constitution in a way that made it more pro-abortion than it was.
Currently, abortion is permissible under the Penal Code if a woman has been raped, conceives in an incestuous relationship or if she is of unsound mind. But reproductive health specialist Joachim Osur argues that people do not abort because it is legal or illegal. "What worries doctors is the increase in unsafe abortions that lead to death. Entrenching this issue in the Constitution is like tying the hands of a doctor, who would have saved at least one life when both are in danger," says Dr Osur. Despite the provisions in the law, desperate women continue to self-induce abortions or obtain clandestine abortions carried out by untrained persons under poor hygienic conditions.
Women are being forced into backstreet abortions in Kenya because of the country's restrictive abortion law, a study says.
And the law could soon get even tougher with church groups urging a ban on almost all abortions.
The U.S.-based Center for Reproductive Health, which advocates abortions rights, found that women and girls in Kenya use metal wires, knitting needles and other unsafe practices to abort tens of thousands of unwanted pregnancies.
Elective abortion is illegal in Kenya. On paper, rape victims still have the right to terminate their pregnancies, but in practice many are denied the option.
The report tells the story of "Sarah," a 14-year-old rape victim from Kibera, a massive slum of the capital city of Nairobi. Sarah's abortion was performed by a friend of a friend because the hospital refused to perform the procedure. Predictably, an infection set in, but she didn't go to the hospital because she was afraid of being arrested. Sarah spent her final month at home, bedridden and in pain. She died on June 29, 2009.
You may be correct, but it's my belief you can support a democratic and civil process without throwing money at the problem. An Africa that isn't in democratic chaos is in the interest of any world power. 23 million is a small price to pay for helping promote the passing of a new constitution here and there.
Are your being intentionally dishonest? Abortion in Kenya is not legal. Here are the specific conditions under which abortion is allowed in Kenya:

Quit making **** up please.
You may be correct, but it's my belief you can support a democratic and civil process without throwing money at the problem.
So the murder of unborn infants was illegal, and now it is permissible in some instances.
What a leap forward.
Nice spin.

You just don't know what you're doing. I can't imagine that if you did, that you or anyone else could be for abortion.
So you don't think abortion is right even if it saves the life of the mother? How is that "pro-life"
Seriously, we were spending money trying to help the people of Kenya, get power away from the government and put it in the peoples hands. And your mad? Good grief.
If Obama had an R next to his name, instead of a D you'd be praising this.
Lmao. My wife had an abortion. I ate the fetus with some fava beans and a nice chianti.
How can someone be for abortion in some cases, and against abortion in others?
If I'm against abortion, that's because I believe that an unborn baby is a human being, and that terminating an unborn baby is killing another human being.
The life of the baby and the life of the mother are equal in my mind.
I prefer it with a little white wine and caviare personally.
Lmao. My wife had an abortion. I ate the fetus with some fava beans and a nice chianti.
It's best mixed in with some fettuccine, with a large does of alfredo sauce IMO.
