That's why Boehner walked out of the talks... as all rational, intelligent people know... when you get everything you want in a negotiation, you have no choice but to give up and walk out.The President gave them everything, against the will of his own party - and they still said no.
Liar. The Democrats are supporting spending cuts too. 3 dollars cut to every dollar increase in taxes, in fact.
I can't believe that the spineless bastige in the WH actually blamed the republicans, instead of his usual wishy-washy habit of blaming the generic sounding "Congress"
Just shows that he's willing to grow a set when it comes to protecting the wealthys' gravy train
A better question is why Obama put the full faith and credit of United States of America at risk in the first place, but I think we can wait until next November to deal with that one. What's with these Republicans? Twice now they have walked out on negotiations about how to defend and protect the full faith and credit of the United States of America. How do you pick up and walk out on that? It's outrageous.

Solutions?
After spending trillions in a down economy, he's fixated on a tax increase that will bring in something like 80 billion, and a corporate jet tax that you could collect for 5000 years and still not cover Obama's 2010 spending bill.
Had he been thinking ahead and started the jet tax when cro-magnon man was hunting cave bears and mammoths, we'd probably have come pretty close to covering the debt he'll incur over his Presidency.
It is the republicans who have put the credit of the US at risk. They had no problem doing it 11 times when bush* was a president, but it's wrong when there's a democrat in the white house.
The republicans are so determined to be the party of NO!! that they rejected a plan that gave them much of what they wanted because of their inability to compromise on tax increases that even YOU admit are miniscule.
And which of Obama's plans did they reject, ?
Boehner? I hope it was worth it, you worthless sac (spelling intentional) of ****.
All of them
all of them? i think you mean zero. which is also, technically, "all of them".
there is only one plan write now, in writing, where everyone can see - an actual plan. that is cut cap and balance. we have a plan in semi writing in the Gang of Six, who depend on savings coming from "increased government efficiencies" and "congress tries really really really hard to reign itself in" style measures. everything else is just leaks and words in the wind.
“I’ve been left at the altar twice now.” — President Obama, today, after Spearker Boehner walked out of debt ceiling negotiations
It takes two to make a deal and so far the Republicans have proved incapable of holding up their side.
Yeah, they promised Reagan the same thing. We're not falling for that trick again.
And sometimes, they just speak my mind for me.
"Speaker Boehner's adult moment is long overdue," said House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif.
"Republicans have once again proven unable to overcome their ideological opposition to ending taxpayer-funded giveaways for millionaires, corporate jet owners and oil companies." said Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev.

Like I said a couple of weeks ago, they might as well just wait until the day before the deadline. Nothing's going to be agreed upon until then, anyway.
if you're intended walks up to the altar and tells you right before you take your vows that they still intend to cheat on you, you are not wrong for walking away.
the President had $800 Bn in increased taxes, and at the last minute announced that was fine but he was going to add in juuuust this $400 billion more.
good on Boehner for walking away.
and Bush Sr. fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me, fool me a third time? no thanks, you had your two.
Nah. By now Obama has figured that he benefits electorally by running it past Aug 2. he will continue to put poison pills in any fix up until then - figuring in a worst case scenario at least Republican Leadership folds and he starts a civil war in the opposing party.
it's clever. mind you it is fairly narcissistic. but it's clever.
The rightwingers can't justify their obstinancy, so they have to pretend that Obama told them he would cheat to rationalize their walking away from a deal that would cut spending dramatically.
I could care less if Obama raised the debt ceiling a million times so long as spending was under control. It is the republicans who have put the credit of the US at risk. They had no problem doing it 11 times when bush* was a president, but it's wrong when there's a democrat in the white house.
not at all. Obama killed this deal when he tried to add in the extra 400 Bn at the last minute. Mind you, he probably did it because apparently when the administration briefed Senate Dems they got an earful.
The boobs get snookered on a regular basis, and they think that qualifies them to run the economy
It's the republicans who are pandering to their base for political gain who are running out the clock
They will continue to undermine the negotiations because they are willing to tank the economy to win the 2012 elections
