And it's unbiblical to boot.
I saw the movie expecting a good disaster movie at best (since I'd already read criticisms about it not being true to the Scriptures). Instead, it also failed in that score! Boy, it's not even a good adventure film!
When one hears the name, "Noah," FLOOD comes to mind. With all the digital effects and all that's available now, this movie was a big let-down as far as disaster movies go.
And those "watchers" remind me of Transformers!
Half-way through the film we already knew Ham will kill Tubal-Cain. It's that predictable!
From a Christian perspective, this movie managed to portray God having such poor judgement in choosing Noah since Noah seems not to "get it"....and is the "evil" man in this movie. The fallen angels were the unsung heroes - disobeying God in their determination to help mankind. The Abrahamic God is a megalomaniac, of course.
Ohhhh....and the women of Noah. They all speak like prophets who knew more than God. OF COURSE. :lamo
One of the biggest distortion of the Scriptures is showing that there are only two females in Noah's family (his wife and a girl they'd adopted and rescued). This was Noah's son Ham's biggest problem. He has no woman. This is also the root of his anger towards his father. So, how do they re-populate the world?
Genesis 7
13 On that very day Noah and his sons, Shem, Ham and Japheth, together with his wife and the wives of his three sons, entered the ark.
what do you expect it was written and directed by a known athiest that had no clue probably even of the story or what it contained.
i thought evan almighty had a better noah story to it.
i won't even watch that nonsensical movie. i knew it was bad when that guy pounded his staff on the ground and fire shot out in all directions.
i think the movie was even boycotted by most churches.
And it's unbiblical to boot.

so no Noah getting drunk and passing out and condemning some of his decedents to slavery?
It was based on the scriptures and jewish Midrashic writings ... it wasn't SUPPOSED to be fully biblical, it was based on ONLY the bible, and nor should it be, we have enough "Christian" preaching films and quite honestly they are boring, I don't go to the Movies to be preached to, I go to be entertained, and had it been just a pure bible story it would be boring.
Well....I was not expecting something that FULLY adhered to the Scriptures to the letter. I was prepared to see it as an adventure/ disaster movie. It was terribly disappointing in that genre!
At least the makers apparently came out later (after all the complaints that it's unbiblical), to admit that indeed it is an unbiblical movie.
Deleting MAIN characters from the Bible to suit their story - eliminating the other sons' wives just to provide the conflict between Noah and Ham says it all!
Furthermore, what with all the evidences they see happening around them - monumental miracles, actually - and yet they doubt Noah?
And anyway, how could Noah get confused with the message of God?
The character of Noah ended up convoluted to boot. All his monologue and portrayal of strict adherence to God fell flat in the end! It's his wife and his daughter in-law that seems to be the prophets, not him!
The writer/director would've been better off to just "touch lightly" on the Scriptures (which is considered
non-fiction by believers of course), and focused on the fictional characters of the story.
The point is it's based more on Rabbinic Midrashim.
I haven't seen the Movie, so I don't know about the actual quality.
Who cares that it wasn't biblically accurate. It's a movie
I liked it up to the point they got in the boat. After that it was just a lot of talking. ZZZzzzzzAnd it's unbiblical to boot.

Oh who cares about biblical accuracy I'm pretty sure Hollywood didn't get Thor exactly right either. One of the biggest distortion of the Scriptures is showing that there are only two females in Noah's family (his wife and a girl they'd adopted and rescued). I watched it. I thought it was good. It lacked the campy voice from heaven nonsense that people like to believe was the way it was. I rather liked the way it was made.Indeed. Never mind the fact that a literal interpretation of the Global Flood ends up killing everything but thermophilic bacteria anyways.
Enjoy it like you would a Michael Bay movie.

Why did the movie fail to mention that Noah was supposed to be 600 years old?
I feel I have to defend Aronofsky here. First, he made no pretense of trying to stick to the narratives in Genesis. His goal was to use the story as it was told in Genesis, in the Akkadian Gilgamesh poems, and some elements from the Book of Enoch to bring out a spiritual conflict inherent in our existence. I thought he did a fine job of that. It's fairly absurd to criticize this movie on grounds that it doesn't match the biblical narrative.
tosca1 said:Well, the story in Genesis depicted all of Noah's sons as having their own wives. If Aronofsky's going to use the account from Genesis, he wouldn't have made the major conflict in the movie about the lack of wives to repopulate earth! That's the premise used as the major conflict in the movie!
tosca1 said:That's quite a big change done to main characters that are allegedly based from a book - that would be like making Katniss Everdeen a transgendered single mother who did not volunteer to take her sister's place in the game but instead went into hiding, yet making claims that it's based from the book, Hunger Games.
And it's unbiblical to boot.
