Romans 7:17…..”As it is, it is NO LONGER I myself who do it, but it is sin living in me.”
Galatians 2:20….”…….and I NO LONGER live, but Christ lives in me.”
What is the lesson ? In Romans the ‘I’ is the ego….which we all have and essentially identifies self. Forget about making Satan the villain….your own worst enemy is your self/ego. Galatians tells us that when we overcome the ego we can become one in Christ. Mystic Christians understand that the unitive state is the ultimate goal. This is very hard for many ‘Christian’s’ who reject the idea of unity as in the idea of the Trinity. By insisting on the separation of the Godhead they necessarily reject any idea of unity with the divine and thus being able to speak of the God within.
I have long been attracted to the namaste of Eastern religions…..the greeting that is essentially saying “the divine in me recognizes the divine in you”……Christians are more likely to rush to the judgment…..assuming no divinity in others unless the satisfactorily prove themselves. Jesus and the Samaritan…do I need to remind anyone ? And, by the way, being born again is the surrender of the ego….it is not memorization of the Scriptures…..
