Isn't it unconstitutional to get sued for anything less than $20?

Presuming I am interpreting this correctly, she paid, was walking out, then saw the pumpkin and picked it up, but 'forgot' to pay for it and kept on walking. I'm having a hard time believing she 'forgot' as she was leaving. Her sister, Annette Atencio, says Medina spent $75 on food that day but forgot to pay for the pumpkin she picked up as she was leaving.
Yeah, I'm having a hard time working up a good "give a ****" about this stupid shoplifting woman. Stealing is stealing.
Then again, maybe she's smarter than her public defender. She may be gambling... and not unreasonably so... that a jury will throw out a theft of "only" $2.Well, I do have a problem with them spending all the money on a criminal trial for a two dollar theft. Either the DA is out of his mind, or she's refusing to listen to her public defender.

This part jumped out at me.

If she had put it in the bottom of a cart then forgot to take it out at check-out, I could see that as an honest mistake. I'm skeptical about this. I'd like to know more. The story is a little light on detail.
I agree with you. But, to me that's obvious. I have this habit of latching onto more subtle factors like this explanation that sounds good on the surface, but make you think , "Hey, wait a minute..." when you think about it for more than a split-second.The detail it's NOT light on is the fact that the District Attorney is wasting taxpayer money to the tune of tens of thousands of dollars to take a lady to a jury trial (to which she's entitled) for stealing (even if she did) a $2 pumpkin.
Come on. That's just NUTZ.
