NJ Sen. Bob Menendez indicted on federal corruption charges

I don't believe any of these Senators have any good reason flying anywhere overseas for "business". All members of Congress should represent their respective states in D.C. and nowhere else. The states have governors to represent the states interests in international affairs and the Fed has the Dept. of State.

Nobody said otherwise. However, my OP was about Bob Menendez, not corruption in politics. Perhaps you'd like to start a thread about that subject so you can show the long list of criminal Republican legislators.

Just exposing the patronising tone of your op.

hell has officially frozen over

reich wingers coming out of the woodwork to express dismay that a democratic senator was charged with corruption

'the enemy of my enemy' thing seems to be at work

the OP whines 'off subject' when someone dares advance that many politicians are corrupt within her thread about a corrupt politician being indicted

could this be a white house jab at the supreme court for insisting in citizens united that "such contributions to outside groups not directly controlled by candidates presented no risk of corruption or the appearance of corruption"

this case will test that assertion; one which underpins the citizens united decision

The Robert Menendez Corruption Charges Undermine the Supreme Court

Who are you talking about? lol

Pretty much the entirety of Congress could be brought up on corruption charges. Plus, is there anything not corrupt about NJ?

That's what you get for going against Obama

The OP didn't "whine". The thread is about Menendez. I welcome you to start a new thread in one of the political sections about the corrupt Republicans. I don't play the "let's not talk about the subject, let's deflect to cover for the guy because I'm partisan" game.

But your diatribe was fascinating.

I agree. Does that mean we should give him a pass though?

NJ isn't completely corrupt. Just some of the politicians who came from NJ through the years. My old Congressman, Rodney Frelinghuysen, is probably the only truly honest politician I ever met in my life. He's been the Congressional rep from where I grew up in NJ since the 1960s.

Haven't you been saying all along that DEMs march goose-step behind Dear Leader ?

I'd say that Dems. are expected to march in lockstep with the President, not that they do. Those that don't, end up getting the crappy end of the stick....

How can Obama be accused of throwing anyone under a bus? I mean he can't do that and drive the bus at the same time....

That's easy, his bus has no windshield, so if he wants someone under the bus, they go right out the front and then BUMP... BUMP, BUMP "Sorry about that Bob, but you were told to remain seated until the bus stops."

So yet another example of Obama using the power of the government to persecute people that have the temerity to have opinions differing to his?

Color me unsurprised. It's in the same vein as Harry Reid's CNN confession about his lying on the Senate floor about Mitt.

The quality of these people that Democrats proffer up to positions of power.

That can be said of all administrations.

What else is NEWS ?They all are Crooks!:2wave:

Menendez is not tight with the administration.

Which is why he is attacked and not someone like Charlie Rangel, who has a long history of tax cheating and other ethics violations.
Charlie toes the party line....Bob did not.

You really shouldn't have sided against the Dear Leader's policies, Bobby.

Oh, if only he had just improperly misused the power of one of the largest and most powerfule government bureaucracies, like the IRS, against his political foes, he would have nothing to worry about.

Charlie is a war veteran, if you didn't know that and you were around him, you'd know within 2 minutes.

Here, instead of being a died in the wool partisan, call out such abuse of the "power of government to persecute" political opponents every time it happens, not just when its a democrat, and perhaps we can get such corruption out of the government, but at this rate, as the left covers for its criminals, and the right covers for theirs, I suppose we can be sure of the status quo.

So who is this Cesca?
Bob Cesca - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Given that background, seems a pretty sure bet that he's a left winger, and I'm supposed to take that as a legitimate source for some sort of, or even close to, authoritative and unbiased source?

I've got a little bit of trouble with that. But even so, given the assumption that your position has merit, do you have another source to corroborate?

I'm no partisan hack, and have been known to change my opinion and position given new information. Whatcha' got on this?

Democrats Were Targets in Inquiries, Panel Is Told

By PHILIP SHENON
Published: October 24, 2007
WASHINGTON, Oct. 23 — Richard L. Thornburgh, attorney general in the Reagan and first Bush administrations, charged Tuesday that political reasons motivated the Justice Department to open corruption investigations against Democrats in Mr. Thornburgh’s home state, Pennsylvania.

Reading this article it strikes me that the IRS investigation into these churches appear to be at the instigation of an outside group, rather than driven forward from the government itself. That would be different than the Lerner instigated, IRS driven, scandal which targeted conservative groups in wholesale fashion.

Much of what is listed on this page came about from the Patriot Act, which was a bi-partisan reaction and response to the 9/11 terrorist attack. Yes, it's still the government pushing it powers to the very limits, and some would say well beyond, the boundaries.

Pointing to bad behavior justifying other bad, and possibly worse behavior, isn't really a solid position to stand on.

If you ask me, none of it is acceptable, I'll grant you that.
