"NFL fans have voiced their outrage after discovering that the New Orleans Saints have hired more male cheerleaders ahead the upcoming season. The franchise confirmed that there will be a total of 13 men on the 2025 Saints Cheer Krewe Roster after three women were replaced following tryouts. The Saints will be one of 12 NFL teams that feature male cheerleaders on their dance squad - compared to just seven teams in 2024 - along with the likes of the Minnesota Vikings, who also confirmed they will have two male cheerleaders this year.

Male cheerleaders have been present in the NFL since 2018 but with their growing prominence in the league, some fans have began to take issue with it. Taking to X to respond to a post regarding the Saints' decision, one fan wrote: 'Yet another reason why I stopped watching the nfl'. Another said: 'Which 20 don't have any? Time for a new team.' On a similar note, another fan said: 'I have never been so triggered in my life'. In a rather dramatic take, one user said: 'Absolutely disgraceful this world gets worse and worse'.

This season, the Saints, Panthers, Buccaneers, Chiefs, Colts, Titans, Patriots, 49ers, Eagles, Rams, Ravens and Vikings will all feature male cheerleaders in their squad.

The Vikings in particular have faced similar backlash after footage of two of their new male cheerleaders went viral. The team have since released a statement. It read: 'While many fans may be seeing male cheerleaders for the first time at Vikings games, male cheerleaders have been part of previous Vikings teams and have long been associated with collegiate and professional cheerleading. 'In 2025, approximately one third of NFL teams have male cheerleaders. Every member of the Minnesota Vikings Cheerleaders program has an impressive dance background and went through the same rigorous audition process. 'Individuals were selected because of their talent, passion for dance and dedication to elevating the game day experience. 'We support all our cheerleaders and are proud of the role they play as ambassadors of the organization."

AMERICANS BRACE YOURSELVES!!!!!

Change is coming. "Change"...the single most despicable thing Americans cannot tolerate.

It's kind of an odd question. The team is all male, because it's a sporting event and discriminating by sex is OK to get a certain kind of player. But is the cheerleading also a sport? Does accepting men mean that they'll drive the women out, or put them at an unfair disadvantage?

On the other hand, the AI says (I'm not a sports fan) that female teams, if they can afford cheerleaders, usually have female cheerleaders. But saying the big male teams have male cheerleaders and the female teams have female cheerleaders would kind of screw over the women in the field.

On the gripping hand, the question is, can a mixed team of male and female cheerleaders put on a great show, like pairs figure skating, that can't be done as well with all female cheerleaders?

On the ripping hand, is it even legal for a team to discriminate against either male or female cheerleaders?

Gee, I wonder if those triggered troglodytes get their panties twisted about segregated universities? Males-only and females-only?

I never paid attention to the cheerleaders when I was on the field, anyway.

:🤷:

Though as a teenager I'd probably have said some bigoted crap had there been males among them.

Male cheerleaders for their favorite team has the same triggering effect on some males as the idea of a transgender promoting their favorite beer.

"GOTDAMN LEFTISTS R QUEERIN' UP MAH TEAM/BEER/COUNTRY!!!"

Somehow I don't think your anecdotal data serving as the water boy sheds much insight on the topic. :ROFLMAO:

Excellent post! Well presented.

I don't think there is ONE answer. Beside we have transsexual rights to consider.

One thing I LOVE about professional hockey.....no cheerleaders! Only here, where we have a pretend NHL team they have a guy in a suit supposed to be an Orca whale.

One of the reasons I only attend Canucks games when there is a top tier team competing and there is a chance for them to win. I don't get to many NHL games

Ever go to a Lions game when Crazy George was there with his drum and megaphone? Now, there was a male cheerleader!

I did!

It was the whole reason I took up football.

I mean, I did specify *on* the field. But yeah. I wrestled. Then they recruited me to 'Merkan football. And it was fun to hit people. Hell, you have pads!

Sure what? Of course College teams have male cheerleaders. Didn't you know that?

Some folks are having trouble with it. I suspect male college cheerleaders aren't quite like this.

Yeah way back when they were at Empire "stadium". Jesus what balls to call that a "stadium". In high school in the US I was a third stringer on the kick return team and we had better 'stadiums" than that piece of shit.

I will tell you that Vancouver is the greatest city in Canada NOW! Then it couldn't compare with Guelph, Ontario and you know anything named "guelph" has to be shit. What the **** is a guelph anyway!

Cheerleading is a sport. There are cheerleading competitions. The sport is dangerous and has a high injury rate including serious injuries.

Gawd, I remember my brother and I going to Lions games at Empire Stadium and sitting through the cold rain watching athletes slipping and sliding on that steeply-crowned field. You couldn't see below the knees of guys on the far sidelines. When they built the dome we got seasons tickets and I think it was season 3 under the dome before it rained on a home game date!
Guelph? I think that's a Sault after it's been bred and had an offspring.

Cheerleading is extremely unnatural as it requires intense motor skills and bodily autonomy consciousness instilled into childhood to make it work, which occurred as an outlet of middle class protestant values. Most Americans couldn't even swim until post-ww2. The result of this is a culture extremely bodily conscious and adult males worried about their looks and young men taking steroids. If men in cheerleading makes it less desirable, good.

Perhaps there is right-wing concern over this being men slipping into women's sports. Although probably more of an asthetic concern than a competitive one. Men prancing around on the sidelines of an NFL football could be the stuff of nightmares.
