Good Morning,

I am the newest of newbies. I've signed up on this site as well as the similar "discussion" (as opposed to "debate") site. I will, in time, come to understand the differences between them and the benefits of both.

My personal interest is in finding thoughtful people willing to entertain the notion that we (in America) need to select better people to represent us in our government. It will take me some time, partly because of ineptitude and partly because I think slowly, to get comfortable here but I will do my best to "get up to speed".

A free independent thinker with no party alignment? That's always welcome in my book.

Thank you, SixStringHero. That's the way I feel, too. I'd like to turn those feelings into a thoughtful investigation of the political problems that beset us (in America).

It seems to me, if we are to improve our government, the first step must be to understand why The Noble Experiment went awry. What caused the deterioration of the idealistic government formed under the U. S. Constitution a little over 200 years ago.

I believe we'll find the result flowed, in a very natural way, from the unfettered pursuit of self-interest by those we entrusted with the leadership of our nation. When those with political power write the rules by which their power is maintained it's unwise to imagine altruism will be their motivating force.

Our task will be to understand the causes of bad government and use the knowledge to improve our political processes. Advances in transportation and communication give us means that were not available to our founding fathers. We must add insight, objectivity and careful thought if we are to correct the evils that crept into our political system.

At the moment, this seems more a topic for discussion and gradual development than one for debate. Should it not be conducted on the Politics Forum and Political Blog discussing and debating political, cultural and social issues affecting us all. site?
