The new substance is the result of a feat thought to be impossible: polymerizing a material in two dimensions.

The new material is a two-dimensional polymer that self-assembles into sheets and could be used as a lightweight, durable coating for car parts or cell phones, or as a building material for bridges or other structures.

Neat stuff.

Pretty cool. I hope they can make it transparent!

Wow. Amazing stuff. First thing I thought of when I read this was airplane fuselages. This material seems ideal for that purpose and could really make a difference in their performance.

Very cool.

But no mention of UV degradation.

We already have very strong plastics, but they typically suffer from UV degradation. Some are terrible about that. Others hold up longer but eventually break down.

Poly tarps should be banned. They are so temporary it is ridiculous. It's like a mass introduction of microplastrics into the environment, Not good!

Steel doesn't suffer from UV degradation.
