Critical race theory has become a rallying cry for some conservatives who take issue with how schools have addressed diversity and inclusion. The theory is a way of analyzing American history through the lens of racism but is not itself a fixture of K-12 instruction.

What they don't tell you:

1. CRT is all over the administration and staff training for K-12. CRT is not a subject taught in class, it's a lens and a worldview that school faculty uses to be "diverse" with their students.

2. CRT is also about the current embedded racism in the fabric of American law and culture, and the activism to transform that law and culture.

Read the book on CRT:

A. What Is Critical Race Theory?

The critical race theory (CRT) movement is a collection of activists and scholars interested in studying and transforming the relationship among race, racism, and power.

Much ado about nothing. Again.

Still waiting for even one example of an anti-white, CRT curriculum or proposed curriculum from a public school. Anecdotes are not reliable evidence.

Oh, look...it's Rickeroo trying to attack teachers again for not being racist.

Why do you want racist teachers? At what point do you publicly acknowledge what so many of us suspect?

I have a neighbor who only ever talks about clouds. "Cloudy day," he'll begin, and I'll think, Here we go. He's a fantastic conversationalist and a world-class debater about clouds.

He'll argue about clouds even when there are no clouds in the schools, I mean the skies.

i'm gonna fait. the OP finally started a race thread.

CRT seems to advance the notion that one's skin color defines one's life and the choices one may make in their life.

Is that true?

You could have knocked me over with a feather.

On a completely unrelated note, I wonder whatever happened to the poster truthatallcosts...
please tell me that truthatallcosts was a huge Trump Republican because that name would be just too precious.

This is the second time the "truth" guy was mentioned. Perhaps I'm him? It's easy enough to tell - see if my subject matter and diction match his (or hers).

Since critical race theory is just critical theory applied to the examination of racial relation, and you've studied CRT extensively, can you describe to me what critical theory is?

Not sure. But the OP is about NBC's false definition, or at the very least, woefully incomplete one.

Sure - CT seeks to analyze culture through the lens of forces and structure that both produce and limit it. Frankfurt school, Marxist influences.

Can't choose your skin color. If making the right choices, that would be the color white. That choice is made for you.

Can't choose to not be stopped more often if your black for no diff reason than a white person. That choice is made by law enforcement.

Can't choose the same higher paying job that the white guy gets with the same qualification gets as the black guy, while the black guy has to settle for a lower paying job. The employer makes that decision.

The above are all facts and true.

I think you get the point CaughtInThe...

OP. show us on the little dolly where CRT touched you.

Fair enough. That's a concise way of framing it.

SO, do you take issue with critical theory, or just the application of critical theory to racial relations?

It has "critical" and "race" right in the name.

That is why we're hearing about it nonstop.

Because it was easy to rile up the rubes with those words.

Taking the examination of vestigial remnants of the Jim.Crow era and turning it into "making white kids feel bad about being white by teaching them about slavery".

The TRCs have been manipulated into ignorant stupidity. More every day.

Every new mantra always translates into "derp".

I don't think CT (and by extension CRT) should have come from the Frankfurt school. This suggests a heavy political bias to their analysis, and especially their proposed remedies. This bias is very apparent in the writings of popular CRT figures.

Suppose Critical Theory came from the Chicago School with Milton Friedman as one of its originators.
