NEW ORLEANS —The Coast Guard says natural gas is leaking from a well at a production platform in the Gulf of Mexico 74 miles southwest of Port Fourchon, La.
Chief Petty Officer Bobby Nash says the well is not spewing, but a rainbow sheen four miles wide and three-quarters of a mile long was spotted in an aerial survey Tuesday.
The Coast Guard says a crew was working Monday night to temporarily plug the well when workers lost control. Two other wells on the platform were closed off. No one was hurt.

Slowly destroying our earth. Hopefully this get under control ASAP, this is the last thing the Gulf needs.
I hope you aren't using any petroleum or petroleum-based products whatsoever. You aren't are you? And if you get electricity from a power plant that uses it, then you are too.
I am and i realize i am. I certainly hope we invest more in green energy so we can move away from this.

You know the difference between natural gas and oil. Right?
Natural gas? What can be harmful about "natural" gas? Well except for being near an open flame.
Yes i do.
Then you should know there's no risk of water pollution.
Jesus Christ people THIS IS NOT A DEBATE THREAD regarding the merits of particular energy sources.
This is a CURRENT EVENTS thread to discuss a BREAKING NEWS ITEM.
Back to the topic at hand. Let's hope this does not turn into another Deepwater Horizon. Methane is not stuff you want to play with.

Yes, as shown by the sheen of pollution on top of the water that indicated it's presence. That rainbow color on top is not gay marriage for your info.
Awww, but it still isn't straight crude.

Didn't say it was. However, you did say there was no risk of water pollution despite clear signs there is pollution.

What clear signs? There's always natural seepage and the world hasnt come to an end. This is just more fearmongering.
Nice Romney, admitting there is pollution from it, and then pretending there is not. The leak caused the same slick that you just said was not as bad as a crude slick. it is still pollution, and now you are back to trying to pretend it did not happen.

The sea floor leaks methane gas all over the planet and has for thousands of years.
yes, but we know that it emits pollution into the water, and that this one is not naturally occurring. Contrary to the odd notion you guys seem to be spouting, just because it comes from nature doesn't mean it is healthy to humans, and that it is not pollution. The earth does spout plenty of poisons and there is no reason we need to help it along.
