Nadal, who first won the uber-prestigious Monte Carlo Masters 1000 title as an 18 year old in 2005, becomes the first player in the Open era to win the same professional tournament ten times. This earned Nadal his 50th title on Clay and he now stands second, of all time (one down) in Masters 1000 wins. Jim Courier noted that Nadal is the greatest player of all time for a given surface (Clay)-ahead of Sampras and Federer on Grass courts or Djokovic or Lendl etc on hard courts. Murray and ND were both at Monte Carlo and both went out a bit earlier than expected, making Rafa the clear favorite going into the other big clay events this spring-culminating with the French Open

Be interesting to see what happens in The French. Murray and Novak coming back from injuries, Fed talking a break etc.

Roger has almost guaranteed he will be in the finals this fall with his 4000 points he won in Australia and the two early hard court masters. He didn't have many points to defend at the end of the year either. If Nadal wins the other two clay court masters, Madrid and Rome, he's gonna be hard to stop in Paris

Murray has performed well in the French the last few years. If he hits form he could be a handful

obviously rat boy is one of the most talented players on earth with one of the greatest variation of shots going. He might be the best offensive lobber on the tour and has a brilliant drop shot and great serve. Also one of the best two handed backhands going but Andy at his best is not going to beat Nadal at his average on clay and certainly not Nadal's best. But in the last couple years, Nadal has dropped below average several times and that could lead to Andy beating him on clay.

Rafa followed up that Masters with winning the 500 point Barcelona tournament-again for the tenth time. Now its the Masters in Madrid.

He just won the Masters in Madrid. crushed Novak in the semis and then beat rising start D. Thiem in the finals. that's two masters and a 500 series tournament in a row. now we have Rome-the last of the big clay court events before Paris

Nadal clearly established himself as the best clay court player in history as he destroys former Champion Stan Wawrinka in the finals at Roland Garros-winning his tenth (most ever at a grand slam) French open without dropping a single set. The one man who beat Nadal this year on Clay (after Rafa had won three weeks in a row), Dominic Thiem, Nadal obliterated in the Semis-after DT had crushed defending champion Novak Djokovic
