I buy a lot from Lowe's and such. The mail order bulbs are too expensive usually. I have purchased a bunch of exotic tulips in the past that are interesting, but not worth the price interesting.
I found Lowe's bulbs to be more expensive, Fischer -- and smaller, and more dried up, but then like I said, I ordered a catalogue from every bulb company I could find, which is why I am planting bulbs in November -- I couldn't afford them until they were VERY deeply discounted.
I hear you can plant until the ground is frozen, but most likely this is it for me this year.
You can plant until the ground freezes and even after if you have a thaw I suppose. We seldom get a deep freeze below a few inches so I can do it whenever. I know what you are saying about Lowe's etc, but it is usually just a matter of getting them when they are livelier. When I ordered, I think it was from Breck's since they still send me 50 emails and catalogs a month.
Breck's is unusually aggressive -- but how are you getting spring bulbs to bloom if you get no frost?
By electing to eat cat food the rest of this month, I was able to buy these beauties:
Now I just have to get them planted. I must have gotten email offers from every bulb company on the planet, and ended up buying from Van Bourgondien.
Anyone have a favorite bulb company they want to recommend?
Beautiful daffodils, Pinkie. I fondly remember the days when I was able to plant bulbs for spring bloom.
Not that it matters, but why isn't this in Off Topic instead of The Lighter Side? I don't often come in here, so I would normally have missed the thread.
