In the case of the 13-year-old girl killed in Vienna, the 4th suspect, who had been on the run until the end, was caught. As the "Kronen Zeitung" first reported and the Viennese police also confirmed to PULS 24, he was arrested in London, Great Britain. According to the police, it is a 22-year-old Afghan. He was wanted by a European arrest warrant. The Afghan is said to have been tracked down by Austrian target investigators.
Three other Afghan suspects are already in custody in Austria. The 13-year-old Leonie from Tulln was found dead on June 26th on a green strip in Vienna-Donaustadt. Most recently, an expert opinion revealed that all suspects are of legal age. According to the Vienna Public Prosecutor's Office, an allegedly 16-year-old is "at least 18, possibly 20 years old".
The girl is said to have been given drugs and the suspects are charged with "serious criminal acts against sexual integrity".
Being deported back to Afghanistan will be the best punishment possible (since Austria apparently does not have capital punishment).Good to see for her parents that all 4 gang-rapefugee & murder suspects are now caught.
Hopefully they will serve long sentences (but „long“ is relative in Austria, they will get 10 years max.) and then be deported quickly back to Afghanistan.

Deepest sympathies to your country. On another note, illegal immigration from Afghanistan to Austria (and therefore remaining Europe) has picked up significantly in the past few months:
Deepest sympathies to your country.
Hope that Austria can quickly (and humanely, of course) either return those interlopers to their homeland or sent them on to countries that welcome immigrants.
I have read that Austria, the Czech Republic, & Hungary are working hard to maintain their culturally homogeneous society.
Best of luck to them.

I did not know that.Besides this scary scenario, unlike Czechia & Hungary, Austria is not culturally homogeneous anymore.
I did not know that.
My deepest sympathies.
having a non homogeneous state isn't a tragedy...crimes can be perpetrated by anyone....Austria exported the worst human in the entire world...Adolph Hitler. In the capital Vienna, 55% currently have a migrant background (one or both parents born abroad).
Some Vienna districts like the 15th have 70% or more.
Many elementary school classes in those districts don’t have a single Austrian student left.
The Austrian countryside is much more homogeneous though: In western Austria, you will find a lot of Germans and Dutch who are culturally similar to us.
In rural Lower Austria or Styria, you have districts with only 4% migrant background.
why does Austria only have a max of ten years in prison?

so, double jeopardy....we don't do things that way here...a jury determines your guilt or innocence and our laws determine your sentence and a judge hands down that sentence and you serve it. There is no evaluation to determine to just let a person stay in prison for life, just because some evaluator determined so.No, we also have life imprisonment (typically a 20-25 year sentence, after which psychologists re-evaluate the sentence. The convicted then either is released, or continues to be imprisoned for as long as several psychologists deem him/her a threat to the public).
The thing here is that Austria has juvenile sentencing laws that go until 21 years. You are treated as an adult only after 21 in criminal law.
The Afghans suspected of gang-raping her are mostly below 21, if you can trust their age. That’s why medical examinations are now used to determine their real age. They often lie about their age to get more benefits.
A gang-rape resulting in death of the victim carries a maximum „young adult“ sentence of 10 years.
after a generation or two that always changes....people complained to the heavens about the Irish and the Italians and how horrible their immigration was to the US...most didn't speak English the way we do...Irish weren't considered white nor were Italians..yet, they somehow still became Americans...the same with Mexicans....my daughter, try as I may have cannot speak Spanish..(I am not an immigrant, but her father was) she cannot speak my tribal language either...she speaks English and understands a bit of both the tribal language and a bit more Spanish....but she looks very non white...I have a friend who is originally from Iran...his wife wears Calvin Klein jeans and while she still does wear a scarf over her head and drink tea...she also eats ham and loves it...so does her husband...he said bacon is delicious and he is sorry that he is a bad muslim....but he is still eating bacon...and drinking a good whiskey.. so, time changes things...education does as well...Definitely not a tragedy, it depends how such a state is administered.
It can be heterogenous and well-working too, if the immigrants mostly adopt to the new countries values.
Problem is we get a lot of people recently from culturally backwards regions like Afghanistan, where many are illiterate and have a patriarchal view of everything (women/gays/Jews/Christians).

which is why I am against the death penalty unless there is unrefutably enough evidence the person is guilty of the crime...for instance video of them killing someone or direct DNA evidence that shows they did it.Neither the US system or ours is perfect:
If a person serves a „life sentence“ here, then a few psychologists call for a release („no threat anymore“) and continues to kill, it sucks.
In the US, you get life and it means life.
On the other hand, several US states also have capital punishment, where there’s always the risk of executing an innocent and evidence is out there that many innocent have been executed so far ...

Wow, I had no idea Austria had so many Afghan refugees considering the huge distance.
It's time for Western countries to realize that some nationalities do a better job assimilating than others. That's not being racist, it's just a realistic assessment that cultures are different and some have more in common than others.
I think in the US, we are quite lucky to border on Latin America...countries that are also European offshoots that share similar languages and religious customs.
