Prosecutors are portraying the mother of a Michigan school shooter as an aloof parent more interested in horses than the mental health of her teenage son. (Jan. 26)
========================================================
I think there is a genetic screw loose in this family.

Prosecutors have no choice with a case like this but to portray Jennifer Crumbley in the worst possible way, which will have to include anything of any possible means that shows a careless attitude she seemingly had about her son.

In some ways this case will retest the limits on extending the actions of one onto the actions and inactions (as being argued in this case) of the parents.

But for the purposes of this case specifically, the defense is going to have an awfully hard time arguing all of this away and odds are Jennifer Crumbley, and the father James Crumbley, are going to be spending time in jail over this.

Not securing this gun was stupid enough in itself, now that we know both parents knew this kid was having issues, but further ignoring his clear mental and anger issues is beyond neglect.

Parents are blaming each other and the officials at the school. Wasn’t there a meeting between the parents and the school shortly before the shooting?

Yes, the meeting at the school was the same day as the shooting.

The issue is how prosecutors show that neither parent mentioned the "new x-mas present" (the gun used, said that way in a text already entered as evidence) at that meeting, the school assumed the meeting was about "disturbing drawings" of Ethan Crumbley. The stress on that meeting will be how the defense for Jennifer Crumbley (then James Crumbley later) in whatever information they both may have offered to the school in that meeting.

It still comes off as careless and issue avoidance oriented for both parents, meaning the prosecution will beat them both up over all of the story. The meeting at the school, in my opinion, helping the prosecution far more than the defense.

At the end of the trial in closing arguments there is a plethora of evidence that both Jennifer and James both took a cavalier attitude about Ethan's issues, and her laughing in texts while riding horses as an image is put along side 4 dead students, and 7 others injured, this is going to be brutal for these parents.

They both have been in prison a while now awaiting trial, and odds are they will be there much much longer. Perhaps 8,10, 12 or more.

I can't believe they knew their 15yo was having mental issues and got him a gun for XMas. That has to be the most irresponsible parenting ever.

I bet her horse did not appreciate that she 'just wanted to get drunk and ride.'

They didn't know their kid was having mental issues. They thought it was normal teen angst.

An 80 IQ Gun Nut won't understand what the parents did wrong.
